The “I” That Always Exists

The “I” That Always Exists

By Steve Beckow

I’m having a debate with myself around the “I” that always exists.

I know from being outside my body that that “I” continues to exist whereas the body does not.

If I am that “I” that always exists, then why don’t I act like it? What is there to fear? Why am I hesitant, drawn back, afraid?

Vasanas, or core issues, or traumatic memories supply the answer. (1)

But if my core issues get triggered, and the “I” always exists, why do I listen to my mind on that or any other subject? There is no absolute need to. And how much does it know, really? (2)

I just got the signal “yes” I’ve arranged with Michael and a separate one I arranged with the Mother.  They both went off together.

If I will continue to exist whatever the mind does or does not do, why do I listen to it so attentively?

I have to factor out the need for a writer to rehearse what they’re writing.

How might my life improve or degrade if I stop listening to the mind? I’ll have to see.

This is a lifelong conversation with my very best friend I’m giving up. For what it will produce….

Not forever, my friend.

The Growth Movement Meets Business…. – 1

The Growth Movement Meets Business…. – Part 1/2

By Steve Beckow

Posted on April 28, 2024

Don’t you wish.

So much is being brought up to awareness at this time. And I know it’s the same for others I speak to.

There are some absolutely critical splits and dissociations that I’m finding raised in me. Forgive me if this post is a mite long, but I’m working this one out in the moment.

One critical split is the dissociation I went through for fifty years, but which lingers a little in me, and perhaps in all of us. That’s the disconnect between what I’d call a public and a private self.

I heard it recently called a “front face” and a “back face” by a survivor of Satanic ritual abuse. It’s also called onstage and offstage behavior.  The one face we show to others and the other we show only to ourselves.

Unless we choose to “let our hair down,” “let it all hang out,” etc.

For me, I was so deeply partitioned in two… well, I’m getting ahead of myself.

I had my personality shattered at age 7 when my Dad shouted at me from inches away from my face. I used to call myself the Humpty Dumpty Man; it took fifty years to put Humpty together again. (1)

My public and private face did not know each other existed, so deeply buried was I.

When in 1986 my girlfriend said I had the profile of an abused child, the two rose up to consciousness together and metaphorically said to each other at the same moment: Who are you?

I exploded in anger for two weeks, having now seen what was going on.  It took twenty more years to dig myself out of that walled-off self and heal the split.

I still have a gap between my onstage and offstage behavior. In private I eat like a caveman and wear jeans, a T-shirt, and a hoodie 365 year round. I still prefer the laid-back lifestyle, wherever possible. But these are all tangential matters.

In more general terms, a discussion I had with Michael a long time ago weighs with me in this area.  Regarding an errant lightworker, he said you cannot serve the Divine Mother and engage in that kind of behavior (I believe it was the use of foul language).

He made no onstage/offstage distinctions. Cannot serve the Mother and depart from ethics, morality, conscience, heart consciousness (period).

That one got in.

Don’t forget that we are the Mother; we are the Father. If God is everything then you and I must also be God. Therefore God’s Plan is my plan. Everything that happened to me was part of that Plan and has brought me to here.

(Concluded in Part 2, tomorrow.)

The Source of Our Upsets and Their Cure

The Source of Our Upsets and Their Cure

by Steve Beckow

Posted on February 3, 2024

Alice in Wonderland is all about vasanas

“Bah, humbug. Why do I need to know about vasanas?”

A vasana is a reaction pattern that contains all the memories of an earlier traumatizing incident – sights, sounds, smells, feelings, moods, and so on. It also contains all the decisions, resolutions, conclusions, beliefs, strategies, and scripts we arrived at or devised. It also has all the memories connected to all other, later similar incidents in which the vasana went off like an awakened volcano.

It’s a kind of file folder that contains everything connected with “The Day Mom Died” or “The Day I was Molested.” And it has in it everything that happened since then that was like it and sprang the reaction patterns we developed from “The Day Mom Died” or “The Day I was Molested.”

Est graduates will recognize a vasana as what Werner Erhard called a “record.” It’s been called an engram I believe, unfinished business, old baggage, and incompleted issues, etc.

Yes, a vasana does contain beliefs, but working with them only doesn’t go far enough. Beliefs are only a part of the story. The whole story goes much further.

And painting a happy face over an upset face only means that we now have the upset with a veneer of happiness over top of it. That accounts for all the smiles we see that aren’t really believable, the strain in the voice, the forced laugh. Nobody buys these kinds of ingenuous displays. And more to the point, we don’t really buy them either.

I have to steer our attention again to what actually does work, as far as I’m aware, and that is to source the vasana that’s been triggered. Let me work my way up to that subject, making a few introductory points along the way.

Our ever-expanding collection of vasanas is what makes us more and more rigid over the years. Finally we become an old nattering individual that no one wants to hear – what Werner called “a guy in a diner” – the loud and opinionated guy who spouts cliches and demands a listening and concurrence.

There are some factors to keep in mind when actually turning to the vasana that has erupted instead of trying other strategies.

One is that a vasana can’t be sourced unless it’s up and going off. The mind doesn’t know how to feed us back the kind of information we need to source it unless it has a real live situation to deal with and relate to.

So there’s no sense trying to source a vasana that went off yesterday but isn’t around today. You can see that that’s what makes our upsets a happy hunting ground. Oh boy! A vasana has gone off. I can now source it.

Moreover, a vasana acted upon or projected outwards, instead of being sourced, merely adds another layer to the existing vasana. It merely energizes the vasana and makes it that much more influential over our lives. That’s the worst thing to do with it.

It’s ineffective to project our vasanas onto others by blaming them for the way we feel. Our vasana is responsible for the way we feel. We’re “doing it to ourselves,” albeit unconsciously.

The present situation is not the source of our upset. A situation that happened long ago is the source. Until we’re free of that original situation, we’ll continue to be triggered.

Now let me turn to how to work with a vasana so as to have it disappear rather than grow and grow.

What we need to do with it is to go within, rather than without. We need to identify the feeling we’re feeling (depression, resentment, bitterness, despondency), ask the mind what earlier incident that feeling relates to, take the first picture or word the mind casts up, and then be with it and the feelings, thoughts, agendas, strategies, etc. that come up with it until we’ve completed the experience of all of it. That’s the way to be free of it.

People have captured this strategy by saying “be with” your upset, “stand back and observe” your thoughts and behavior, sit with it like a brick in the lap, or “listen to” your feelings and “get the message” they’re trying to convey. These are ways of saying very similar things to the approach I described above.

One thing that can go wrong here is that we reject the first word or image the mind throws up to us. That’ll result in this process not working.

Another thing that can go wrong is that the vasana may not lift after the first pass. It may take several passes until it releases its grip. Some vasanas take long and deep processing before they let go.

I’ve seen one woman work at a very deep vasana through many Enlightenment Intensives, get through it, and have a transformational experience every time. If I was able to tell you what she was dealing with, it would curl your hair. No other form of therapy or treatment had come close to completing it.

It’s my most mature opinion that sourcing a vasana is the only way to get free of the limiting conditions in our lives that trace themselves back to our earlier, mostly childhood upsets that now rule us. Our sicknesses, our failed relationships, our business failures, all these things and more arise from our incompleted vasanas going off and essentially ruining our lives.

So if you’re thinking in extremes at this moment, if you’re spiralling downward, if you’re being grouchy with other people or thinking that your life is over, a vasana has just erupted and you’d be best advised to source it.

There’s an extensive literature on the subject in the righthand column under the section called “On Processing Vasanas.” If you do nothing else for yourself during this time of uncertainty and more waiting, perhaps learn how to source a vasana. That one investment will pay you more than all the other things you’re contemplating right now or perhaps ever will contemplate.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and give everyone complete mastery over the process by which we emerge from a vasana’s grip (but of course I don’t even have mastery over it myself). That would be my Christmas present to everyone (especially those people having Christmas dinner with their families of origin right now and feeling triggered). They could be having what Werner called a “stack attack” – a whole mess of vasanas going off at once.

It’s my belief that, if we source all our vasanas, we’ll be restored to our essential nature, see our original face, be enlightened, be liberated. There’s no greater obstacle to enlightenment, bliss, love and full satisfaction than our vasanas. And there’s nothing more valuable to a human being than sourcing their vasanas.

I Don’t Need to Handle the Other Person’s Conflict

I Don’t Need to Handle the Other Person’s Conflict

By Steve Beckow

My work with the cycle of conflict continues and enters a new phase.

In working with the cycle as a satisfied single, a happy hermit, I’ve seen that, in one respect, the cycle is irrelevant to me.

As long as there is conflict inside of me, I’ll see conflict outside. As within, so without. I don’t need to handle the other person’s conflict; I only need to handle my own.

Download Leaving the Cycle of Conflict here:

https://goldenageofgaia.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Leaving-the-Cycle-of-Conflict-18.pdf

If I want to leave the cycle of conflict, I have to leave it; that is, step away from my own outward-projected conflict. Never mind what others do. If I don’t exit it, it’ll always be around.

So, entering this phase, I lose interest for the moment in how to do it in relationship. I now want to know how to do it (period).

***

Again the answer is so blazingly simple, it brings tears to my eyes.

You don’t have to click-bait through seven screens to find it or earn a degree from MIT in the subject.

How do I end the cycle of conflict. How do I leave it?

The answer is: When an intention of conflict arises and moves me to action, stop and drop it.

That’s it. You can send me $1,000 now if you like.

Just stop and drop it.

Gawd, how simple can it be…..?

Just stop the forward motion and let it go. You don’t have to have something to put in its place.

In my opinion, your heart will do the rest.

***

You know we’re being bombarded with love energies by civilizations we’d reverence if we knew of them. The Mother describes her “normal” delivery system:

Divine Mother: Normally, [Light] would come from me to my realms, to the dominions, to the seraphim, to the archangels, etc., to the masters, to your guardians, and then to you. But that is why each of you is shining like a star with many facets. You are being bombarded by all of us. You see, there is no shortage of what I have to share. (1)

I imagine that the impact of this divine tsunami of love is that our hearts, if relieved of the burden of our issues and upsets (vasanas), which is something only we can do, (2) would flower. Their opening, fully and permanently, is the event at the climax of our Ascension.

The Phase of Purification Called Growth

The Phase of Purification Called Growth

By Steve Beckow

Posted on August 29, 2023

A sharing circle

A newly-awakening person might ask if what we’re promoting here is a new religion.

I don’t think so. What we’re doing, more, is chronicling two aspects of the Purification phase of the Ascension we’re involved in.

It’s true that our Ascension is what the prophets meant when they used words like “Salvation” and “Redemption.” There is religious testimony to the advent of the Aquarian Age and the Ascension that ushers it in. But Ascension itself is not a religion. It’s a tangible, historical process.

We call the phase of Ascension in which the dark Ones are removed from positions of power “Accountability.” I call the part in which the light-filled Ones shed their dense overburden of upsets and issues “Growth.” It’s characterized by a movement I call “emergence.”  (1)

I consider this the time to commit ourselves to our own personal growth, to release that which we won’t be taking with us.

What does “growth” mean? Well, right now, it seems to mean dropping our encrusted patterns, strategies, acts, rackets, and so on.

***

To drop our encrusted patterns, we have to first become aware of them. So growth work first involves raising our awareness of how we “be.”

The more of our constructed self we drop, the more we reveal the natural and native purity and innocence that we are underneath it all. (2)

I experienced my own natural purity and innocence at Xenia Retreat Center on Sept. 18, 2018.  Archangel Michael describes that part of my experience:

Archangel Michael: What you have done is you have journeyed to the depths of your soul, to the depths of your core. …

And you have discovered, not lack, not criticism, not error, but beauty. Underneath the dross is the full beauty, the power, the gentleness, the sweetness of who you are. …

What you have discovered … is the yearning [for] innocence, [for] the sweetness and, yes, the purity that the Mother has filled you with, with her tsunami [of love]. And inside the purity is clarity, is love and so you have reached a deeper level, a higher level, a broader level of understanding.

And it is not merely an intellectual understanding. It is heart wisdom. And, in that, it allows you to proceed in a gentler way, not in a way where you feel you have your finger in the dam or you are pushing the river the other way.

So you are in the early stages of truly, not falling in love, but truly being not only in love but Being Love. (3)

“It allows you to proceed in a gentler way.” I feel that gentleness, which is rather foreign to me I might add, whenever I contemplate our original innocence and purity.

To discover that I was pure and innocent at my core rather than impure and sinful (born in sin) was extremely freeing. I still don’t think I’ve fully realized the full significance of it.

***

We are, I believe, dropping anything that can’t go forward with us. Preparing our bodies, minds, and emotions for the tremendous jump in energies that is out there ahead of us.

Michael shows us here that the Company of Heaven are bringing us along as fast as our bodies and minds can tolerate:

Archangel Michael: What you have seen is that you have been given bite-sized pieces of energy, of energy bumps, of input of what you can digest and handle and truly bring to fruition. If you are in the process of expansion, you don’t go from Grade 3 to a PhD in a week. (4)

AAM:   Every time you especially enter transformative love, that is a snap. It is not the full dramatic snap [Sahaja Samadhi or Ascension] but it is a snap. Each time, you are progressing up what you can think of as a level. (5)

So we’re literally climbing the staircase to heaven, one stair step at a time.

***

Purification means completing our old business of upsets, grievances, resentments – all the things that keep us dense and … well, here.

Gabor Maté is discussing it; (6) Thomas Hübl. (7).  Kathleen has her process for getting to the bottom of upsets and issues. (8) I have mine. (9) Buddha did. His modern-day interpreters do. Not dropping our old baggage is what keeps us unenlightened.

Fundamentally our issues are upsets whose experience is incomplete. We refuse to experience the feelings we felt back then and so are stuck with them: What we resist, persists.

The antidote is: The truth will set us free. We have to discover the origin of the upset and then complete the experience of it. How did Thomas Hübl phrase it? “Unresolved past is destiny; it repeats until we have the courage to work together to face it.” (10)

Discovering its origin, facing into it, experiencing it through to completion releases it and us.

We’re aided by the rising love energies, which make identification and release of an issue easier. And what we don’t clear away will be forgiven us later.

But it’s intended that we do as much work as we can for the educational value of it. And because the debts we incurred are ours alone to discharge. No one can do the releasing for us.

My Relationship to Anger is Changing

My Relationship to Anger is Changing

By Steve Beckow

Posted on July 15, 2023

As the love energies increase on the planet, my relationship to anger is changing.

The background is that my Dad shouted at me from inches in front of my face at age 7. My personality shattered. That bent the twig and the tree inclined in the direction of dissociation – for another 50 years – and anger.

Dissociation meant I had no sense of myself. In the journey back, years later, I saw that I had a public and a private self and that they had never met. When they met, at age 40, I went off like a volcano for around two weeks. (1) Definitely toxic. Nobody to be around.

The fact that I was a house divided was not a pleasant experience and I sought ways out of it. Not like I knew exactly what “it” was for years and years.

Karate was one such way. I discovered that I was such a fearsome-looking fighter that no one in the dojo wanted to come near me.

I attracted violence on the street, in the subway, even in the classroom, so aggressive were my vibes.

In fact when a fight was pending, I preferred to cut to the chase and dispense with the words. Let’s get on with it.

I liked anger. It had distinct advantages over being defenseless in my household.

Now my Dad could never come within five feet of me or I’d make him regret it.

A big plus was that I fused back together again temporarily whenever I got angry. I felt powerful again, strong, my self, etc. So I’ve grown up all these years seeing anger as my friend and as the place I’m more than happy to end up in.

Well, now, as the Reval looms, and with it very large duties, anger becomes a liability. And the vasanas (or core issues) behind the anger are an even greater liability. (2) The whole thing becomes what I called the other day a “vulnerability,” “fatal flaw,” or “Achilles’ heel.” (3)

Our channeled sources tell us often that the rising love energies are going to raise to the surface all our vasanas. There’s nothing hid that shall not be known – before we ascend, I imagine.

The hid shall be made known to us, not to the readers of the New York Times. The rising energies are forcing our remaining issues to the surface, in my opinion. But Ascension is a private and individual process … errr, unless writing about it is part of your soul contract.

Especially since I realized the true context in which I’m operating – a co-creative partner with Archangel Michael, something we can all be  – changes have been happening. None are more dramatic than the fact that, when I feel angry, I don’t like the way I feel any more.

I have thoughts like: Anger has brought most of the sorrow into my life. The rest has been brought in by hatred, jealousy, greed, and all the rest, but anger is the big one.

At the same time, I can’t now dissociate from my angry self. That’ll recreate the problem. I have to have it walk with me and talk with me. I have to get to know it, understand how it got to be angry, and love it out of its despondency.

I already know that anger has no place in the higher dimensions. It isn’t that it has no place because it’s taboo. It has no place because the love the flows there, like the air here, lifts us up to such a level that no harmful thoughts (1) can arise, (2) do arise, and (3) would ever arise.

So anger was my friend and still is. But now it’s mine to bring back into the fold and into the center.  Mine to inform that the war is over. Mission accomplished. Come join the banquet with the rest of us.

Footnotes

(1) My then-girlfriend said to me on the fairgrounds of Expo 86, “Do you know you have the profile of an abused child?” And both my private and public selves came forward at the same time to say, “Yes!” It was as if they looked at each other and said, “Who are you?” I then knew I had split off from myself.  It took eighteen more years for me to fuse back together again (at age 58).

Eleven more years and I had the heart opening. This completely revolutionized my life. I could say that my life really only started at age 69.

(2) VAH-sa-nas. A Vedantic term for the seeds of future action or karma. What we do today returns to us. I use it to mean the complex of conclusions and decisions arising from earlier traumatic incidents that influence – and sometimes determine – present-day behavior.

Therein Lies the Work

Therein Lies the Work

By Steve Beckow

Posted on May 12, 2023

Will Rogers as the 1931 Connecticut Yankee

If the Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court went forward in time to this age, what would he see?

Well, first of all, he wouldn’t travel to King Arthur’s court; he’d be surfing the Internet.  And his liege lord, Arthur, wouldn’t be worrying about his wife running off with his chief knight.

The current ruler would probably be worried about being offed, if they’re not already replaced by a clone or masked actor.

And the ones doing the offing would be worried about their heads as well.

And it wouldn’t be just the realm that would be in peril. If you listen to the mockingbird heralds of today – hear ye, hear ye – the whole world would be in peril.

And from several sources. Uhhh, manmade climate change. Mmmm, multiple manmade pandemics. Errr, manmade energy scarcity. What happened to killer bees? Manmade?

How did we get here, pray tell?

I have a private opinion. You can agree with me or toss it, as you wish.

I think it all stems from us giving in to the same impulses on a social level which today, on a personal level, ruin marriages, businesses, all good ventures. We extend out into the social sphere the very impulses that eat away at our marriage and family structures.  Or am I the only one who does?

Resentments, judgments, malintentions, gossip, all the flotsam and jetsam of billions of ruined lives. On and on, down through time via .. what did Michael call it? – “legacy learned behavior.” (1) Excellent description. Intergenerational transfer. Like father like son.

I’ve actually stopped the clock at times when I’m acting poorly, and I hear “that’ll teach him a lesson.” I can see my Dad and hear him speaking as if in an inner movie. In my anger, I’m copying the behavior.  It’s the only movie I have and the only one that plays. Otherwise I have to consciously reject it, assuming I’m even aware of what’s going on.

In fact I didn’t want to be a father because I knew that the only movies I had in my head were unsuitable for parenting. I wanted to stop the intergenerational transfer but for me that meant no parenting at all.

Meanwhile, the rising love energies are going to squeeze all the bad thoughts out of us. But anyone who feels like taking the “emergency exit” out of their own private collapsing world should know that they can handle the matter without leaving, by processing these disagreeable thoughts and words. (See fn 2)

Here comes the bad news, to some: We do it, not by projecting our bad thoughts and feelings outwards, scalding others, which feels good for a moment but bad for a lifetime.

We do it by experiencing our thoughts and feelings to completion, which feels bad for a moment but good for a lifetime.

But therein lies our work.

We’re looking for the original incident that bent the twig and inclined the tree, on the premise that the truth will set us free. And it will set us free. We can use an increasing sense of release to guide us.

That’s a change of direction and it made all the difference in the world to me.  It’d be as if people were now saying “I love you” to you, instead of “why don’t you [fill in the blanks]? ”

Or like me, at the Safeway. Clerks are smiling at me instead of giving me a look that says, “Who is this jerk?” This is so new to me that I often stop and stare at them.

Meanwhile, in the wider world, so few people seem to make eye contact right now. We seem to feel, not defeated, but deflated after Covid. Will it take time or a gigantic effort or a Wave of Love to jackhammer us out of what appears to be a social malaise?

Footnotes

(1) AAM, March 28, 2019. We take inner movies of our parents’ and siblings’ “bad behavior” and that becomes the raw resource we unconsciously draw on and act out later. The result is that we become like our parents’ worst sides as well as their best, without knowing it. Thus is bad behavior perpetuated and works its way outwards.

(2) See “How to Handle Unwanted Feelings: The Upset Clearing Process,” December 29, 2018, at https://goldenageofgaia.com/2018/12/29/how-to-handle-unwanted-feelings-the-upset-clearing-process-2/, also a chapter in Vasanas: Preparing For Ascension by Clearing Old Issues at https://goldenageofgaia.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Vasanas-Preparing-for-Ascension-R2.pdf.

A vasana is a patterned response to an earlier traumatic situation. It includes a conclusion, a decision, assessments, strategies, etc., etc, that govern future behavior.

Breaking the Self-Serving Cycle

Breaking the Self-Serving Cycle

By Steve Beckow

Posted on May 6, 2023

Peter the Great

Long. A little technical, maybe complicated. I’m OK if you skip it and go on to the next article.

As living, breathing beings, while in human form (as opposed to angelic form), (1) in my view, we create ourselves.

Some people call what we create a “personality” or an “ego.” (“Ego” means “I.”) I think of it as a constructed self, a product of our own conditioning.

As human beings, we don’t act by stimulus/response. Because we’re cultural animals, (2) we act by stimulus/thought/response. I think of thought as the cultural gap.

The way we condition ourselves is that we observe the stimulus, in the cultural gap, make conclusions about it, and decide how we’ll respond now and in the future. Then we act.

If we were lions, we’d never catch anything. We’d probably sit around and talk about it.

Some of these components may happen in a fraction of a second. What we decide becomes the planks out of which we build our personality

Every element of what I’ve just said deserves separate study.

The stimulus of our thought and action – the motivator – is usually our feelings. The Buddha called the principal troublemakers the polar opposites “craving and aversion.”

Like/don’t like, love/hate, want/detest decide the matter and then we ransack Heaven and Earth for “reasons” to explain and justify why we just thought and acted the way we did.

Meanwhile we go back and forth between avoiding what we don’t like and getting what we like. Life becomes a continual cycling between the two.

Trauma-based reactions I’ve called vasanas, (3) to link it up with Vedanta (4) generally and Sri Ramana Maharshi in particular. (5) Vasanas (VAH-sa-nas) are our core issues, old baggage, resentments, gunnysack, whatever you want to call our unfinished business.

These fear-based responses, especially, chisel the form of the statue, our David, our masterpiece, that we become. (I think I’m a master at being me.) Some like our creation; others don’t.

You may call the self we project onto the world the personality, the constructed self, or the ego. It’s all about survival.

As it works its way through life and the world, it creates a self-serving story of its own exploits and misfortunes.

It tries its story out on all and sundry, modifies the parts that don’t fly, and then presents the final product to the world.

“Here’s why I didn’t get my Ph.d. at the University of Toronto. Here’s why I didn’t get my Ph.d. at the University of BC. It wasn’t me,. Empirical materialism. Couldn’t live with restraints. Went on to write many books.”

We glorify ourselves in our own story. Where we vanquished our foe, our input was crucial.  Where we faltered or lost, we couldn’t help it. Praise us; under no circumstances blame us.

Marcel the Man Crusher

Blame us and you “cross the line.” You’re now not a friend but an enemy and we switch to a different protocol.

How much learning can there be in a life constructed and constricted in this way? How much real love, which doesn’t show up in a lie? How does such a life line up with the purpose of life?

I’ll come to the latter in a moment.

I notice that we spend our conscious years undoing all these conclusions, decisions, and constructions that form our personality. Try something new, the Company of Heaven invites us. Creak, creak, creak. We move painfully in that direction.

***

So there I am, a walking stimulus/thought/response machine, constructing his self-serving story telling the world how he saved it from its peril. I explain my misfortunes as the subtly-implied incompetence of others and the group’s rise to success and fame as a result of my own contribution.

Ah me. Another day, another douleur (pain … in the rear). (6)

How to break this cycle and become a free and spontaneous human being? Well, first of all, fear not. Ascension will do it and every day we draw closer to that.

So, as with so many other things these days, we’re only talking about the time between now and then.

What to do?

Too good for the likes of you

Remember what Krishnamurti said: “Without first knowing yourself, how can you know that which is true? Illusion is inevitable without self-knowledge.” (7)

He wasn’t talking about Self-Knowledge. He was talking about getting to know the ways of the personality, the small-s self.

Because those are what you are not.

On the path of awareness? Watch. Observe the ways of the personality. It can be fun. “Oh, here I am being self-serving. What will I say this time?” (8)

What else to observe? One critical thing is our vasanas – our trauma-based reactions, as I mentioned earlier.

Vedantists like Sri Ramana consider vasanas to be the seeds of future action (karma).

Ascension, which is Sahaja Nirvikalpa Samadhi, burns those seeds to a crisp. We’re freed from our karma or need to act.

Without observing and understanding the personality or constructed self and its ways, there’s no way to be able to distinguish the real Self out from it when we encounter it.

Krishna said: “Lose discrimination, and you miss life’s only purpose.” (9)  Why would he say that?

I said we’d come to it: Well, what is life’s purpose? To realize who we are. Why? When one of us realizes its true identity, in that moment, God meets God. And for that meeting was all of this created. (10)

If that’s life’s purpose, how is it accomplished? Well, in the tradition to which Krishna was directing his remarks, he was saying that we accomplish life’s purpose by discriminating between the Real and the unreal (neti, neti – not this, not this), detaching from the unreal, and attaching to the Real.

We begin to piece together  the “seeds” of our action. We begin to see the personality, the statue, the constructed self and its modes of operation. That is not who we are. Neti, neti. Not this, not this.

In a moment of our seeing and distinguishing it out, I predict we’ll realize the Self behind the personality. (11)

***

One desire does not hurt us, Krishna says:

I am all that a man may desire
Without transgressing
The law of his nature. (12)

When we desire God and contribute that to the makeup of our constructed self, it frees us rather than restraining us. By the Law of Attraction, we draw closer and closer to the One and Realization.

We help that along by first discriminating between everything unreal and the Real.  Life helps us do that.

We discover a very well-planned life, with soul contracts and missions, (13) that keeps us moving toward Self-Realization and conscious Re-union with the One. (14)

That’s the spiritual alternative to dressing up our created, constructed self, selling our story of its accomplishments to the world, and having a “very good life.” Going this route, we may never awaken to the alternative.

Hopefully we’re leaving self-servingness behind. When we’re washed by the love in the higher realms – the real River Jordan – we’ll forget about it completely.

And it matters not whether you belong to the Legion of Michael or the Tribe of Uriel, the Praisers of Metatron or the Truth Speakers of Gabrielle. It does not matter your colour, your hue. (11) Not like I have any basis for predicting such an outcome. I am not an enlightened man and hence not a spiritual teacher. I just love to write.

Sri Ramakrishna compared the situation of an aspirant who chooses an unqualified teacher to a garter snake trying to swallow a frog. The garter snake cannot swallow it but won’t let go; the frog is not swallowed and they both die.

However, if a king cobra (a qualified spiritual teacher) comes along, it swallows the frog in one gulp.
