6 Spiritual Awakening Stages You Need to Go Through to Get to Your True Self

Have you been wondering about life and your true purpose recently? Do you ask questions like “Who am I?” or “What am I here for?” Perhaps you’ve experienced a traumatic event that’s made you reevaluate your life? Maybe something just feels wrong, or you believe there’s more to life? These feelings suggest you’re experiencing the stages of a spiritual awakening.

There are six spiritual awakening stages, and in this article, I’ll explain each one and tell you how to recognize them.

What Is a Spiritual Awakening?

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

– Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

A spiritual awakening is a shift in one’s consciousness. Different religions and cultures have their own versions of spiritual awakenings. For example, Buddhists believe by completing the Four Noble Truths we reach the ultimate state of Nirvana. In Japan, the state of Satori represents spiritual enlightenment.

In psychology, Carl Jung said we are all born three times; once from our mother’s womb, second when our ego develops and third when our spiritual consciousness forms.

Jung described the formation of our spiritual consciousness as a spiritual awakening. It begins when we step back from ourselves and see the bigger picture. You begin to look at the world differently.

So, what are the spiritual awakening stages?

• The Void
• Grounded

Your Purpose

1. The Wake Up/Trigger

Signs of the Wake Up:You wonder about the meaning of life.

You feel something is changing inside you.

You feel detached from life.

The first spiritual awakening stage is the wake-up call. It’s that nagging feeling there must be something more. It’s the moment you ask questions like,

“What’s my purpose?”

“Who am I?”

“What am I here for?”

“Is there anything more to life?”

Trauma, spiritual journeys, deaths, or illnesses can trigger this. It can also happen at a certain age when you ponder your mortality.

For example, actress and singer/songwriter Demi Lovato credits her spiritual awakening to a near fatal overdose in July 2018. In 2020, she told the New York Times:

“This last year provided me so much self-growth and was so beneficial to my spiritual evolution.” Demi Lovato

Actress Julia Roberts led a more spiritual life after filming Eat, Pray, Love in India, saying how Hinduism inspired her.

Whatever triggers your wake-up call, it signifies a new direction. You are awakening to exciting possibilities. The time is right for spiritual expansion. You view the world from a different perspective; one that not only looks outwards, but seeks answers from within.

At this point, you can either respond to the wake-up call or ignore it.

2. Bliss/Synchronicity

Signs of Bliss:

• You’re aware of weird coincidences and patterns.
• You feel at one with nature.
• You’ve become more intuitive.

Those that acknowledge the trigger find themselves in the second spiritual awakening stage of bliss. You understand there is more to life than this 3D realm our human bodies inhabit. This brings comfort and peace.

Now, you connect to the universe, soaking up energy and expanding your mind. For the first time, you sense the world around you. You are at one with it, a part of it, and on a journey to self-discovery.

You know there’s more to life than the 9 to 5, and everything seems brighter, more evocative; waking you up imbued with passion.

You’re no longer alone because now you’re connected and part of the bigger picture, and it’s one that’s enduring and meaningful. You’re confident that with your guide you can find the way to spiritual enlightenment.

3. The Dark Night/The Purge

• Signs of the Dark Night:You feel lost and alone.
• You experience heightened senses.
• You reevaluate your beliefs.

After the bliss stage comes the Dark Night, and this is the hardest of the spiritual awakening stages. Now your soul must cleanse and heal itself. During this stage, you’ll face your darkest fears. Some experts call it a spiritual detox.

“The dark night of the soul is essentially any time when our darkness comes to the forefront. It’s as if we are doing everything we can to stay afloat, and it seems as if the universe, the world, and life is against us.” Anna Yusim, M.D.

Here you face hidden traumas and emotions you’ve buried for lifetimes. It’s like falling into a dark pit of depression and not being able to find your way out.

Carl Jung talked about the Shadow Self; the parts of us that disgust, repel, desire or we repress are all hidden in the dark. Facing your shadow self takes courage and an open mind.

Whilst it’s true, you must hit rock bottom before you can ascend through the later stages of spiritual awakening, this dark time is essential.

Think of it like a purge of all the negative experiences and traumas in your life. You are ditching any excess baggage that’s been holding you back. Letting go of your old life to start afresh can present challenges, but it’s for the best.

4. The Void

Signs of the Void:You’re prone to viruses or illness.

• You experience frequent headaches.
• You feel disconnected from everyone.

Just imagine how you’d feel if you had detoxed all the nasty poisons from your body. You’d feel exhausted by the effort. And so it is with a spiritual detox. Now is the time to rest. Give yourself time to adjust to the new you.

In this stage, you may retreat into yourself and live a solitary, hermit-style existence. Where, at the beginning, you enjoyed a connection with the universe, now you sense a disconnection from the world. Sure, you’re cleansed from everything that’s been holding you back, but it’s left you empty and lost.

Now is the time to look after yourself. Navigating through the Dark Night is exhausting and will leave you depleted or even depressed. Rest yourself, eat healthily, and give yourself time to recharge your batteries.

5. Groundness

Signs of Groundness:You’re drawn to nature.

You have vivid dreams.

You become grateful for what you have.

The fifth spiritual awakening stage is grounding. Imagine you are a tree sapling, freshly sprouted, clean and unpolluted. Now you must ground yourself in the soil and allow your roots to stabilize your upward journey.

In this stage, you reaffirm everything you’ve learnt, through the trigger, bliss, dark night, and void. You are open to whatever the universe has in store for you. Bliss and enlightenment return. That connection you lost during the void is also back.

Just as lightning finds its way to the ground, you must also ground yourself, otherwise, it’s impossible for your spirit to grow. During this stage, you solidify the lessons learned and incorporate them into your daily life.

You understand that the journey you have been on allows you to connect your spirit to your earthly body. Now, your spirit and body are finally becoming one with each other.

Being grounded connects you to the universe, but also allows your spirit to continue its journey. Think of your spirit as a kite. If you don’t tether it to your hand, it would float away and get lost in the vastness of the universe.

6. Purpose

Signs of Purpose:

• You have a newfound curiosity.
• You’re more compassionate and empathic.
• You feel at one with the universe.

The last of the spiritual awakening stages is Purpose. You have purged your spirit from all negativity and rested.

You now see the bigger picture. Your perception has shifted, and things are no longer black and white but many nuances of grey. There is empathy and compassion for others and a need to look beyond a forced narrative.

“You will begin to see through all the illusions in this world and strip off all the masks that you’ve been wearing solely for the validation of society.”

You’re confident in yourself. Having set high standards for your behavior, you use your newly found confidence to communicate your insight to others.

During this last stage, you may find you lose certain people along the way. It’s become intolerable for you to put up with those with prejudices or hate-filled hearts. You accept these losses as part of your journey. However, you don’t judge people. You acknowledge their path is different from yours.

This final stage of spiritual awakening takes a long time to reach, and you may slip back to previous stages. This is because the ego is always fighting to regain control.

Final Thoughts

Completing the six spiritual awakening stages doesn’t mean you are at the end of your journey. On the contrary, it’s the beginning of an authentic life unfettered by old ideals. Each stage is one of reflection, discovery, and growth, designed to free you from the human bonds that hold us all back.

The Rise of Bliss was Itself the Message

I know! I know! It’s crazy out there! Credit: mamamath.net

On the one hand, I’m reading about arrests and weather warfare and the WEF wanting to replace elections with AI, etc.

On the other hand, I find myself going deeper and deeper into myself.

Paradox.

However the draw is unmistakable.  As an awareness writer, I guess I should talk about the process, as I observe it unfolding.

I believe Michael uses bliss (and probably other divine states) to draw me from one focus of attention to the other.

Here’s how a typical day unfolds, leading me to what I’m to write about. Not like I know ahead of time, unless I’m researching something, what the subject will be.

I began this morning with my usual question as to whether we still have a world to greet, another day.

I peruse the news….

Yes, everything that should be here seems to be still here. All operations seem to be moving forward towards the EBS (Emergency Broadcasts) and martial law and a change of planetary management.

More folks are waking up, hopefully, and the Ascension energies, in the background, are always rising.

However we’re hearing now of the possibility of open conflict and a lengthened time frame before the movie we’re in is closed down. (1)

Meanwhile, the dark hats are probably finding it harder and harder energetically to keep moving forward. (2) Their funds are being sequestered. (3) They’re about to lose their greenbacks, money-laundering banks, and money-transport systems with all the conclusive financial changes about to take place. (4)

By their use of the Looking Glass, (5) the dark hats knew their regime would not survive long after Earth’s entry into Fourth Dimensionality, on Dec. 21, 2012.  And it is crumbling, with the organization – or what’s left of it – lashing out in all directions.

Vaccines, climate change, weather warfare, gender confusion, bug food, DEW (directed-energy weapon) attacks, pipeline destruction, arson of food production plants, Suez attacks, interruption of anything that can be interrupted and moving from one issue to another via their CIA-controlled press – we’re under concerted attack as a planet, as unbelievable as that may be to some.

And, in the midst of watching all this, I’m being guided to go inwards….

As I said, I believe Michael uses bliss to draw me on towards a subject. I’m feeling that welcome bliss now and I allow it to envelop me.

I find I’m left in blissful silence….

I wait for a message and it finally dawns on me that arriving in blissful silence after reading about death and dying in a war heating up IS the message. This is what it took to have me let go of the world’s mayhem and come to peace.

Michael’s guidance today doesn’t seem to be towards an article but towards disengagement from the craziness of the world scene.

Nonetheless, remember that Michael doesn’t want me (or us lightworkers) to sit in bliss forever:

Archangel Michael: If you fully enter into the bliss, into the One, you will not be interested in returning and serving. It will be a different experience, and it is not the experience that you have selected and chosen for yourself at this time. (6)

AAM: Right now if you were to complete your full ascension, many of you would not bother to stay and finish the creation of Nova Earth.

That’s one problem. A second is that if I, and other journalists like me, ventured too far ahead of our readers, into bliss, whom will we be speaking to? Michael says:

Archangel Michael: Because you are a communicator, it is important not only to share the truth of your being, of our being, but also to be able to clearly relate to people where they are. (8)

AAM: It is important that you speak and communicate in language that people understand, embrace and can get behind. (9)

AAM: If you venture, as you would often like, too far ahead of the crowd, then whom are you speaking to? (10)

Everyone who discussed spiritual topics in any age had to translate their findings into the language of the people of the day. Otherwise they find no one to talk to.

Reducing the Ineffable to words is alone a challenge. But to reduce it further to the vocabulary of the day, the metaphors, even the slang … there is nothing left of the experience.

No wonder Jesus spoke in epigrams and modelled rather than lectured about love.

OK, I look beyond events to see if there’s a lesson here.

What I see is that, when the world is descending into chaos, all to allow the militaries of the world the global support to assume control of their governments and expel the deep state once and for all, (11) a civilian sitting quietly in bliss from time to time can be an asset.

One thing that would be a very great blessing to an interim white-hat government is if we all remained calm. What is the London sign? “Remain calm and….”

Thus I see a decided benefit for me and society from me sitting here in bliss and calm, periodically restoring myself to the balance point, periscope depth.

It’s also not elitist. It’s something I could wish for everyone – to invite bliss up from the heart and abide as That, in the words of the scriptures.

Here, the rise of bliss was itself the message. With bliss came calm and peace.

That doesn’t mean that I have to take that bliss outside and “model” it. I think I’m too shy for that.

I can quietly “come from” that bliss into the world and that in itself would be the contribution.

Finally, I notice this bliss is very amenable to happiness, which I’ve recently chosen. I can now connect those two dots as well. Blissfully happy. What material reward could come close to it?

Cats have it right!

I’m changing my mind on an existential matter, one that I’ve been discussing already.

I’m changing my mind on the importance of how we feel. I can feel that my mind or vote has changed.

In the past, I’d have looked past how we feel to what we were thinking as what was important in any given moment. But I’m beginning to appreciate the importance of the way I feel, perhaps as the lovelight energies rise, as the Federation calls them. (1)

I feel into and abide in more and more love and bliss, whereas I used to flee from them, too embarrassed to be seen in public with either of them playing upon my face, too afraid to be vulnerable.

When I was a kid, anyone appearing so was considered to have lost it. I was never going to allow all that to happen to me, Junior G-Man that I was.

Now I want to spend more time in them. Michael asked me to do that long ago now:

Archangel Michael: You are anchoring into [bliss] bit by bit so that you are not overwhelmed and that you are able to communicate, write, share, and guide those who are following you so that they may know, not only what to look for but what to look forward to. (2)

OK, viewed from that perspective, I feel more comfortable spending more time in higher love and bliss.

I know he wants me also to stay grounded. Four years earlier, he had toned down an experience of Brahmajnana (seventh-chakra enlightenment):

Steve: Interesting! Ordinarily you would experience Brahmajnana at that point but I felt that it had been muted, toned down.

Archangel Michael: When you use the term “dramatic enlightenment experiences” [as I did earlier],  you are talking about Nirvana. You are talking about the unity of all with One.

It is not to say that you will not experience that, but you cannot (well, you can if you wish; it is a choice to) simply remain in that state of Unity, of One, or be fully conscious, [and be] in service, in action….

So, it is a toning down, if anything. It really is the middle ground. …

You know that enlightenment is right there in front of you. It is yours to access. But if you are in service, you will not choose to live there. …

You can think of it as keeping two feet firmly on the ground.  (3)

I’d no longer be interested in serving:

Archangel Michael: If you fully enter into the bliss, into the One, you will not be interested in returning and serving. It will be a different experience, and it is not the experience that you have selected and chosen for yourself at this time. (4)

No, I’m here to serve. Hanging out in bliss comes later.

I’m also fearful of inviting ridicule. Trying to answer shils and trolls would slow me down. I’m happy flying under the radar. (5)

But now, however, how I feel assumes significance. I’m now willing to spend more time in love and bliss than I have been.

At the same time, I don’t know my reception. I feel exposed and vulnerable.  Hence, I’m quietly and slowly dipping a single toe into the water….

The toned-down Self I saw was luminous rather than brilliant

While I’m aware of the actor/participant or “witness” in the drama of my life, and while I’ve even seen a moderated or toned-down version of it, (1) I personally wouldn’t say that I’ve realized it.

I’ve called realization seeing from a higher level, (2) which is true, but, at the same time, realization, when one is in 3/4D, is accompanied by energetic events that seem to burn the knowledge into one’s mind. Bliss is a prime example. As a consequence of the uplift of bliss, one feels certain about the matter in question. And that certainty lasts.

In my 1987 vision, I was steeped in bliss, with the result that I never forgot the details of it. (3)

In the sight of the Self at Xenia, I neither felt bliss nor saw the Light in its full brilliance. Consequently the event was not burned into my mind in the same way the heart opening and subsequent tsunami of love were.

I did experience the divine states of innocence and purity and that was illuminating. I’m not complaining.  Just reporting.

I’d say that my ego is still left automatically in charge of most of my everyday actions and interactions.  I watch and listen to myself complain about needing to go to the corner store for something, nattering about this, that, and the other. What’s wrong with this picture?

What’s wrong is the key driver – the actor/participant, witness, or Self – is missing. The Self is not in the driver’s seat. Most of the time, the ego is.

If you were on the path of awareness, you’d be aware of your moment-by-moment responses to life. I’m aware that I’ve taken those everyday responses for granted.

Ordinary behavior usually goes on in what Werner called “the background of obviousness.” I.e., it’s too obvious [that is, unimportant] to notice how or why I do what I do.

But of course it isn’t unimportant. Leaving behavior fully to the ego I now consider unwise.

All I can do is clear the space for the Self to drive the car, as much as I can. And ask that my guides put the Self in the driver’s seat for me. All enlightenment rests with the other side.

Realizing the Self, of course, when it happens, would lend me the strength and wisdom that I presently seek to borrow from Michael. I know! I know! I’m just saying.

I took the day off just to relax. And in order to relax, I was pursuing my hobby-of-the-moment, which involves painting interestingly-shaped bottles with glitter paint.

Let’s see where a picture is…. Here’s one. The red Tanqueray label reads “T.” But if you turn it upside down it reads “Q.” (We do what we can.)

So I’m relaxing and feeling very good. And suddenly, I ask myself, “What do you mean, ‘good’?” And I recognized my state as mild bliss. The minute I recognized it, it blossomed into a wave of bliss.

And I realized that we just don’t pay attention to these wisps that we’re always feeling, that can lead, when recognized as in this instance, to the full state.

I have to acknowledge that I have mixed feelings about bliss – and some resistance. We used to talk about “getting high” and “dropping out and tuning in” in the Sixties. There was a fair amount of self-indulgence, along with everything else.  And so I’ve shied away from bliss.

But Michael says he wants me to be in it and write about it:

“Allow yourself to find this balance – and of course we will help – of being in the bliss, infusing the bliss into the words, knowing and understanding the pain and suffering and disappointment of those who are still in the midst of [their cleansing].” (1)

He asked how folks would know what to look for if people who experienced these states did not share about them:

Archangel Michael:  When you are in the bliss … is when you are truly in the union not only with my Sacred Self.  It is with our Sacred Self.

It is the totality of all; where the, what you can think of as the, distinguishing outlines of individuation, of delineation disappear. That is truly the way existence is. (2)

It does not eradicate the sense of individuality or uniqueness but it reduces it to what it really is, which is of very little importance.

Steve:  I’m enjoying the bliss. You can send any amount of it you wish my way.

Archangel Michael: I’m sending it as an appetizer and sometimes as a full meal!

And you are anchoring into it bit by bit so that you are not overwhelmed and that you are able to communicate, write, share, and guide those who are following you so that they may know, not only what to look for but what to look forward to. (3)

Oooooh-kay. But there’s something about being in bliss while others suffer that I feel uncomfortable with.

I have the thought that to be in bliss, and write about it, when so many people are suffering seems insensitive,  like arriving in a Lamborghini at a world conference on eliminating poverty.

I have this mental image of Jabba the Hutt in bliss.

So I resist.

But unless someone shares on subjects like bliss, we’ll be surprised and confused when we suddenly find ourselves in it and don’t know what happened. It’s even more important with a feeling like ecstasy, which is reportedly Twelfth Dimensional. (4) We won’t know what to aim for or ask for if we haven’t heard of its existence.

The other One I serve, the Lord Arcturus, once told me that it was desirable that I have interdimensional experiences in order to let others know what’s coming down the pike. That conversation is too long to quote here so I put it in the footnotes. (5)

So encountering and getting beyond my discomfort is what I need to do.  AND not allow myself to go too far ahead of the group so I don’t lose my ability or desire to communicate, as Michael has often asked. I share a few of these mentions because they undoubtedly apply to you as well. I invite you to hear them as if he were speaking to you:

AAM: If you came with full capacity and meaning – yes, the vision, the hearing, the knowing, the full memory, the access, all of the above – and you were to communicate to humans, to the collective,there would be a sense of separation.  That is why you, as with so many, have been kept under cover. (7)

AAM: It is important that you speak and communicate in language that people understand, embrace and can get behind. (8)

AAM: You [are] not [to] venture too far ahead of where people are, both individually in terms of your smaller circle but also in terms of the collective. (9)

AAM: If you venture, as you would often like, too far ahead of the crowd, then who are you speaking to? (10)

So there you have it: Enter into and enjoy the bliss but not so much that you remove yourself from fulfilling your soul contract or render yourself incomprehensible.

But today is for enjoying the bliss!

I haven’t had sufficient experience with exaltation to believe I could describe anything more about it than I did in the articles at the time.

(5) Lord Arcturus: Now, you have come to a planet in this and in other lifetimes to assist – yes, through communication, through clarity – with the progression of the planet through the elimination of the old third, which was really quite disastrous [to] the progression up through the fifth, through the six, to the seventh so that the planetary system will reside in a level of higher consciousness, Christed consciousness as you think of it.

Now in order to do that, it is highly beneficial – and this is where mutuality [written into my soul contract] comes in – that you would have, not only the intelligence but the perspective of the higher dimensions (it is not a hierarchy but it is different).

And so the perspective say of the ninth dimension is very different than the perspective of say the third, the fifth or the seventh dimension.

Because it is very important that humanity realize, as they are in their unfoldment to a grander plan, that the seventh dimension is not the end of the road, not the be all and end all.

What is Peace?

In our inquiry into peace, we start with the impossible task of defining it. (1)

Peace enters our experience as a divine state or quality. It’s more than just a feeling.

A feeling happens inside us, but we find ourselves immersed in a divine state – like peace.

I’ve had no luck trying to describe the quality of love or bliss or any other divine state. Instead how I know them is from their impact on me.

Higher-dimensional love has me be social. I want to share my love. It’s natural to want to do that because, at a very deep level, I know that love must flow.  I’ll feel it as it passes through me, up from the heart and out to the world.

Higher-dimensional bliss has me feel insular. I just want to be. I want to let go of all personality, ego, desires. I want for nothing else than to enjoy the bliss. But bliss itself? I have not a word for it.

Abundance, mastery, confidence, the same.

But if you think of it, how would you define vanilla? Chocolate? Coffee? Only in terms of something else – fruity, nutty, etc. Not in terms of themselves.

Higher-dimensional peace has me feel certain, present, rock-solid, stripped of all defenses.  As long as I don’t betray it (and the same can be said for love, I recall), it will be my strong defense.

I feel relaxed. If I were to watch it, I think I’d find that tension in the body eases, allowing for an increase in awareness.

I asked my co-creative partner to give me an experience of peace right now so I can write about it.

Immediately everything emotional and mental began to sssslllooowwww down.  My heartbeat was now steady – no flutters, no sudden gasps for breath.

I have absolutely nothing going on in this space. I knew this space as “purity” in my Xenia experience. Michael commented:

“What you have discovered … is the yearning [for] innocence, [for] the sweetness and, yes, the purity that the Mother has filled you with, with her tsunami [of love].” (2)

It lay underneath all vasanas (or core issues), trauma, upsets, resentments, and judgments.  In reality I experienced myself without all the overburden. And that is all. There I am waiting, underneath all the mental refuse.

My native intelligence can arise here in peace. Fear does not reach here.

Interesting…..

Now I feel joy, tapering into bliss.

This is the space of peace.  Michael said:

“And we do not mean an absence of war. We mean the presence of peace as you [Steve] have been describing it.” (3)

In other words, peace as a higher-dimensional state which has no 3D correlate that I can relate to to find words for!

Peace is a world apart from simply the end of war. We can have brief experiences of it as long as we’re in 3/4D, but a permanent experience awaits Ascension to the higher realms.

Steve: How do I guarantee that corruption won’t set in [in the Michaelangelo Fund]?

AAM: First of all, (laughing) who do you think you are working with, dear heart? (1)

Who indeed!

So here I am, presented with the wonderful opportunity to co-create with Archangel Michael:

AAM: We are a team. We are allies and we are brothers and the truth of this comes forward more clearly for you every day. (2)

Yes, it does become clearer – in what’s revealed to me, as this aspect of my own mission was revealed to me lately. (3) But also in the amount of bliss and peace I feel as a result.

It’s an opportunity open to everyone but not easily accessible or affordable.

In the future, Michael says that this whole area will open up:

Archangel Michael: As things are shifting, as the, shall we call it, new awareness, heightened awareness, interdimensional reality – because that is truly what we are talking about – as this truly anchors, not only in the heart, but in the thought patterns, the behaviour patterns of human beings, the idea of working with an Archangel is in fact going to be commonplace. (4)

On the one hand, it makes the value clearer of recording my own partnership as much as I can.

On the other hand, it suggests the advisability of watching what I say or how much I say, as I mentioned earlier, until the mockingbird press is gone from the scene. The meme war can be brutal.

I know. I’ll write a new book, including some articles that have been posted and some that will not have been. I’ll publish it as soon as a free press returns.

Michael has said GAoG is flying under the radar for now (5) but that later, after Disclosure of our star family’s presence, we can expect controversy. Even then he doesn’t want me to get involved. (6)

Let me relate one last noticeing. Michael once said:

Steve: What are the intentions of this construction project called building Nova Earth?

Archangel Michael: The intention is exactly what you have expressed in your book. Now, did you really write it or did I?

S: I don’t know. [laughing]

AAM: [laughing] I am teasing you, my brother. It is a world that works for everyone.   (7)

I’m aware that my work in the area under discussion will predominantly be to get out of the way! And I’m honored to be used in this way, if I am. I already know that all mistakes will be mine. (8)

For the rest and speaking for myself only, while later it becomes possible to talk about a path, I see no path looking forward. From this vantage point, the path looks like, to quote est Trainer Dennis Percy, the trailing edge of my leading foot.

That thought sends me into bliss.
