Are Physical & Emotional Pain Needed to Grow?

Are Physical & Emotional Pain Needed to Grow?

The 9D Arcturian Council

Posted on June 15, 2025

We are The Arcturian Council. We are pleased to connect with all of you.

You have an enormous capacity to endure pain, and you have endured quite a bit of it over your lifetimes there on Earth. We know that many of you believe that you need pain in order to grow, in order to evolve, and some of you even believe that pain will even be an integral part of your ascension. But we want you to know that once you feel pain, and you get the message from the pain, you no longer need it and it doesn’t serve you to perpetuate it.

Many of you need to convince yourselves at this point in your lives that pain is no longer necessary. You do not have to take painkillers either, in order to not be in pain. You simply must recognize what the pain is there to tell you and take the message from it. Physical pain will always indicate to you that there has been emotional pain that has either been ignored or suppressed.

When you get in touch with the emotional pain and you allow the emotional pain to be what it is and to be felt by you, then you will find that the physical pain subsides. Sometimes this means being very honest with yourselves, because it can be very hard to admit that you’ve been in denial of something, especially to yourself. But you will find that pain can lead to growth, because of what it illuminates within you.

Ultimately, however, you would like to be able to recognize the emotion and the thought sooner than later so that you do not need the pain to reveal itself to you physically in order to get your attention. You need to know what lower-vibrational emotions you are ignoring and suppressing, because they are indications to you of how you are mis-creating. And as creator beings, you want to create that which is for your benefit, that which is appropriate, and that which you desire.

And so, sometimes you need to have a magnifying glass put over what you have been doing in order to see it. But once you are in pain, you also need to notice how you are reacting to it. What is the emotional response? What is the mental response, and what is the physical response to your pain? These are all indicators to you of how you have been living your life, and you can swap them out for better-feeling responses. You can start to see things differently because of the pain you are experiencing in the moment and recognize that you do not have to live with it.

You do not have to make it chronic, and you can convince yourself that it is a temporary experience meant to send you a message. You can breathe your way through the physical pain, just as you are meant to breathe your say through emotional pain. And in the clearing of physical and emotional pain, you feel relief. In your relief, you are able to create anew. You are able to see yourself and your world differently, and we encourage you to do just that starting now and with every aspect of your life that is not the way you would like it to be.

We are The Arcturian Council, and we have enjoyed connecting with you.

Is Abstinence the Only Cure for Addiction?

Is Abstinence the Only Cure for Addiction?

By Julie Peters

Posted on October 15, 2024

Abstinence has long been recommended as the ultimate treatment for addiction. But what if the research supports a different approach to recovery?

In the classical protocols for addiction, abstinence is king. Twelve-step programs and other strategies help people quit a certain substance or behavior and stay off it forever. While this strategy absolutely works for some people, it doesn’t work for everyone. According to the American Addiction Centers, only about five to 12 percent of people who go through a 12-step program actually succeed in recovering from their addiction. So what if there’s another way to work with addiction? What if abstinence isn’t the only option?

The Link Between Addiction and Trauma

As addiction and trauma research has increased and improved in recent decades, it’s become clear that addiction and trauma are almost always linked. Addiction isn’t the problem, essentially; it’s a coping mechanism. Regardless of one’s behavior or the substance they are using, the addiction is a misplaced way for the person to calm themselves, quiet extreme emotions, and, in many cases, function despite deep emotional pain. For some people, their addiction is truly standing between them and death.

In many traditional forms of therapy, a therapist will not see a client if they are actively using. To paraphrase Adi Jaffe, who wrote the book The Abstinence Myth, that’s a bit like telling someone with a broken leg they can get help down the hall, but they have to walk all the way there without their crutches. Obviously, some substances will interfere with cognition, making it harder for someone to benefit from therapy. But therapy doesn’t necessarily always have to be about cognition—it can also be about connection, care, listening, and a safe place to start working out what’s going on with the pain that sits beneath the addiction.

Concerns with Non-Substance Addictions

There are also a few logical quandaries that arise when practicing the belief that abstinence is the only option for addiction recovery. If one is addicted to food, sex, or work, quitting those things completely isn’t really an option. Recovery is going to have to include working on the relationship with those things in order to heal. It’s also easy enough for people experiencing addiction to switch from one addiction to another; to give up a certain substance but then find another way to dull their emotional pain.

There are also many addictions that are seen as socially acceptable. Caffeine is an addictive substance, and addiction to work can lead to the breakdown of one’s health and relationships. In a society that is hyperfocused on productivity, there is very little stigma surrounding addictions to things that make us more productive, even when those things greatly impact our well-being.

Is It an Addiction?

Further complicating the issue, in recent years, plant medicines like cannabis and psilocybin have been increasingly studied and legalized. If someone is regularly using a substance that was formerly illegal but is now legal for medicinal use, does that qualify as an addiction?

One simple way to know whether you are addicted to something or not is this: Pleasure (or the experience of taking good medicine) brings us more deeply into our bodies and into our feelings, helping us feel more like our authentic selves. It can increase our empathy as well as our ability to communicate, express feelings, and care for ourselves. Addiction is simply the relief of no longer having to feel your feelings.

From this perspective, it’s really not about the substance but rather about an addictive energy. Drinking wine for the sensual experience, to enhance the taste of food, or as an act to share with another person is an expression of pleasure and connection to your body. Drinking wine to disconnect and dull your feelings, especially to the point of consistently harming your body with hangovers and impairment, is more like an addiction.

Addiction Versus Connection

One of the strongest elements of 12-step programs is the group aspect. People are encouraged to come together to talk about their feelings, problems, and relationships with the substance or addiction they are struggling with. As many recovery programs and specialists remind us, the opposite of addiction is connection, not abstinence.

We know that addictions tend to seem hereditary. But if we think of addiction from a wider perspective, we can also see that what might be passed down are survival and coping mechanisms, not necessarily an addiction itself. In his book In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction, Gabor Maté, M.D., explains what he learned from his decades as a doctor in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, known for its disproportionately high rates of drug use. Maté could see addictive behaviors being passed down through families, especially where there was no infrastructure to support people through safe housing, healthy food, and recovery programs.

A New Way to Heal Addiction

So what if addiction could be healed by healing the trauma that sits behind it? What if addictive energy is a powerful survival mechanism, not something to be fought but to be understood and supported so that it can rest?

There are many strategies to help people with trauma and addiction. Medication and even some plant medicines (utilized legally with a skilled and qualified practitioner) could help someone heal their addictive energy. Private therapy, especially when it addresses trauma and the body, can be transformative. Groups, whether in a 12-step program or elsewhere, can help establish connection, which supports the fight against addiction. Specific therapeutic techniques like EMDR and neurofeedback can also help some people.

Of course, many of these resources require money. Specialized therapies that might be helpful in particular cases might not be available in someone’s area. Even when free and accessible mental health programs are available in places like hospitals, they may be more re-traumatizing than helpful due to a lack of resources for both patients and the potentially underpaid and overworked staff.

But perhaps the approach to understanding ourselves and our addictions better is simple. Connecting with friends and speaking the truth can be powerful. Twelve-step programs have a lot of benefits and are free and found in all major cities. Mindfulness meditation can help teach us to get curious about our addiction and how it works and what it might be protecting us from.

However we choose to approach addiction, maybe we don’t have to think of abstinence as the only choice and the only way. Maybe this could be the start of a kinder, gentler recovery process. This strategy could certainly lead to abstinence, and that may indeed be the best thing for you. But if we didn’t have to start there, maybe it wouldn’t be so hard to get there.

It may be disheartening to see people emboldened and acting out just because others are doing it as well.  Please remember, this is not being done to hurt or offend you in any way.

Often, those words have been said to them or someone they love, those actions have been viewed and deemed acceptable by another in their life.  Can you imagine being in such emotional pain and so deep in denial that you are unable to confront what is right in front of you?

If you are at a loss for what to say or do, send The Universe’s unconditional love.  It may not cure the ill they carry but, you will know you have done your part, guiding them a little closer to the resolution they need.

Emotional Healing – Check

Emotional Healing – Check

Dear Ones,

Pieces of your 3D life likely surfaced last week with unpleasant reminders of who you used to be and why. It is time to heal from that emotional battering.

Perhaps you felt as if you could not go on. Even if those around you did not feel the same, they could not provide the caretaking you needed. So you felt lonely and alone.

You wanted to end your 3D reminders, but others kept pulling you deeper into your emotional pain. Emotions that may have contributed to physical pain. It was as if someone attacked you from the inside out.

You could not describe to anyone how deeply pained you were or why.

Part or all of your pain was likely about caretaking beyond what you felt comfortable doing – even when you were of 3D. It was too much for too long.

This is a healing, taking care-of-yourself week.

If the past few days were not that difficult, you may be somewhat confused about this week’s discussion. Maybe you cleared this piece earlier, or your inner being decided to do so at some future time.

For those who experienced last week’s pain, please know that you eradicated a deeply hidden fear.

It is now time to heal. To take care of yourself.

Those who were part of your difficult clearing will likely not participate in your healing. They will not understand your needs because they have needs of their own. And they are probably not in the same place as you emotionally, or they would have noted your emotional exhaustion before now.

In a sense, those closest to you, including those now transitioning, are oblivious to your needs. This is why you are learning to care for yourself.

While it is true that you will have the love and strength to be one with others because of your newly discovered self-love, this emotional discussion is about you finally realizing that you cannot care take others unless you place yourself first.

Similar ideas were relayed previously, but until this past week, you did not realize how deeply ingrained caretaking of others – most often loved ones – was. Last week was your wake-up call.

Do you dare say “no” despite the ongoing needs of your loved ones? This is a question you have pondered for some time. Not because you wanted those loved ones to leave your circle but because you needed them to care for themselves. And every time you indicated self-care to them, another piece arrived that forced you (in your mind) to take care of them. They expected you to. In truth, they helped create scenarios to awaken that fear deep within you.

In the next few days, you will heal from the inside out. And then you will proclaim your independence from caring for them to the degree you felt you had to despite your personal needs. Once you have separated from their caretaking needs, they will either find ways of taking care of themselves, or they will discover they are no longer comfortable with you because you are not who they thought you were – the consummate caretaker.

This caretaking clearing has been extremely difficult for those of you who moved through it in the past few days. So allow yourself to rest, knowing that those you have been caretaking in thought, word, or deed will likely not understand your pain or anger. This is your piece, not theirs. They would be completely comfortable with you continuing to care for them for as long as possible.

Such is not to blame you or the being you were caretaking, but instead to allow you to know that you no longer need to perform in that capacity. Of course, you are worried that you will do physical, emotional, or spiritual damage to that being if you discontinue your caretaking. At the same time, thinking of ongoing duties and responsibilities related to that caretaking without taking care of yourself seems impossible. You no longer have the need nor the capabilities to do so.

Of course, your caretaking responsibilities will continue to hound you for a while until you allow yourself to completely break free. And so you will because the past few days have been so emotionally and physically trying that you might break if you continue. You have nothing left for yourself, much less anyone else.

It is time for you to regenerate, so allow yourself the freedom to do so. The being or beings you have been caretaking will either become more independent or will find someone to care for them as you once did. It is their choice. You cannot continue. You are emotionally, physically, and even spiritually drained. It is time to replenish yourself. The object of your caretaking has choices, just as is true for you. What will they do?

Perhaps the two of you will come to a new understanding of what you both need. Or, they will move on, as will you. Or, nothing will change, and you will find yourself more and more exhausted as you notice that their needs never change.

It is time to close that hidden chapter in your being. It is up to the individual or individuals you are caretaking to find their way through their needs; you cannot do it any longer.

It is time for you to fly into joy – something you cannot do while maintaining the pain you now feel. Rest and regenerate before proclaiming what you will do. Use this rest time to determine what you need and why. Which is the complete opposite of what you have done for earth lifetime after lifetime.

You have given all you have to give in 3D, both for humanity and the earth. It is no longer your role to continue to give to others. This is your time to heal and regenerate from an extremely difficult 3D closure, most likely of a caretaking nature.

So be it.

Trouble Sleeping

Note from the channeler: normally I don’t do private channelings, but a friend of mine asked me to do one for him. This advice is for him specifically, and while I think others may benefit from this message as well, ultimately it’s advice for one specific person and not general advice. Also, if you have any medical conditions, please go see a doctor or similar. This message is not a substitute for seeing a doctor or psychologist or similar if you need to..

Question: I write to you today because I really don’t know who to turn to, I don’t know if anyone else would understand… Do you remember the negative experience I had with magic mushrooms a few months back that I told you about?

Well, I think I’ve improved a lot, as I mentioned to you, but one thing I still notice is that when I meditate for longer than twenty minutes or so, with deep breathing and sound frequencies, I notice a level of anxiety kick in, weakness, and negative thoughts, which keep me from sleeping, and this happened last night. I even woke up at about 4 30am this morning and could not fall back asleep…

Answer: My dearest brother,

This is Hakann speaking. Thank you for sending the email. I know that asking for help takes some courage, and so you have my respect.

Fortunately, nothing is permanently broken or damaged. However, unfortunately, the magic mushrooms have peeled away a few layers a bit more quickly than was ideal...

The Path of Receiving Love

The Path of Receiving Love

Hakann trough A. S.

Posted on March 12, 2023

My dearest brothers and sisters,

This is Hakann speaking. I greet you in peace and love.

I have previously shared two spiritual paths that I think would benefit everyone, namely: breathe deeply and slowly at least three times a day. If necessary, put up a note to remind yourself to breathe deeply and slowly. And also: observe your thoughts and emotions as they come up, without trying to change or judge or suppress them. Both of these things don’t need to take more than a minute a day, although of course you can make more time for them than that.

Last week I shared another spiritual path that I think will be great for some people, but not necessarily for everyone. That was the path of Kriya Yoga.

Today I will share another spiritual path that I think will be great for some people, but not everyone needs it and not everyone will be in a position to walk it.

This path is: find some relatively emotionally safe person who knows you pretty well. Every day mutually share with each other how your day was and how you felt during the day. And very regularly, either every day or just very regularly, share with each other what you think that other person did great or what you admire about them or what you think their positive qualities are. If you can, try to be specific, because that way the compliments and affection “lands” better. So for example, “you did this thing very well today, good job, I’m proud of you” or “you’re really kind, I love that about you” is preferable to just an overall “you did great today” or “I love you.”

Of course, only share things that you authentically feel. If you cannot think of anything nice to say about the other person, then well, probably think a bit harder of what qualities they do have. They likely have a bunch of good qualities, otherwise why are you interacting with them?

To some of you, this will just sound like a healthy romantic relationship. And sure, it can be (or you can do this with a platonic friend). But a lot of times, after the initial relationship phase people stop regularly expressing appreciation towards each other and giving each other compliments on a regular basis. Some of you would benefit from doing that a bit more, because while rationally you may know the other appreciates you, emotionally many of you can still benefit from the affection.

The reason why I am suggesting this is that most Earth humans haven’t received enough love as children. In many cases, this is the root cause of emotional pain in people.

People’s lack of received love as a child can also lead to people blindly believing that the government is a benevolent parental entity that takes care of them, despite all evidence to the contrary, simply because people are so very desperate for a benevolent parental entity that takes care of them.

This is also why we think it is very cruel and unfortunate that lots of parents train their children as they train dogs: show them love if they behave in ways the parent likes, be critical or somewhat harsh if they behave in ways the parent dislikes. Children deserve unconditional love and support, and you can make children aware that certain actions have undesirable consequences without withdrawing your love from them.

The primary solution to the problem of people not having received enough love as children is, them getting more openly expressed love from other people today. Sure, self-love also helps and is also important, but humans are a social species — getting love from other people is a fundamental need that people have. Self-love is important but it can’t fully replace that.

You’re not weak or flawed for needing love and affection from others. More people than not would benefit from regularly receiving love or affection. It’s not that if you want to regularly hear that someone cares about you, that there’s something wrong with you.

Perhaps this path of receiving love can help you and the other person receive the love that you may not have sufficiently had. In turn, that can be very healing and it can enable you to become your best self.

As you may guess, the daily compliments are primarily about both of you feeling seen and loved and nourished, and not primarily about cognitively learning something about yourself. So it’s no problem if one thing gets said multiple times.

If you think this is a bit artificial to do: humans (including children) are supposed to be telepathic and very empathic and thus they are supposed to be able to literally feel the love from the people around them, every single day. On a typical day (or cycle), I literally feel love from my wife, from my children, from my friends and I feel respect and affection from the people I work with and direct. And they also feel the same from me. So we Pleiadians may not verbally tell each other regularly that we love each other unconditionally and appreciate each other, but we do telepathically feel that during our entire lives, even back when we were still in our mother’s womb. And yes, this contributes very much to our emotional well-being.

I understand that right now telepathy is blocked in most Earth humans, so a replacement for now is just verbally telling each other what you appreciate about them and what they did well and what their good qualities are. If you do have access to telepathy or strong empathy, you can also just sit down and look at each other and literally feel each other’s love or appreciation, without words. That can also be a healing practice.

That said, while I think this can be a great and very healing practice for many of you, I understand that unfortunately not everyone has a relatively emotionally safe person to do this with. And also, some Earth humans did receive the love they need and don’t particularly need this practice. That said, don’t be too quick to say that you don’t need this, because some people who think they don’t need this in fact could benefit from it.

If you want to find a pen pal, either to do this practice with or just in general, you can leave an email address in the comment section and invite people to write to you. I suggest making a new email address for this purpose.

I hope this was helpful. I know the situation on Earth is very harsh and tough for many of you. You have my utmost respect for being able to keep going and also keeping a good heart in all the darkness.

You’re Still Standing

You’re Still Standing

Hakann trough A. S.

Posted on February 4, 2023

My dearest brothers and sisters,

This is Hakann speaking. I greet you in peace and love.

Today I would like to remind you just how much you have been through already, and to remind you that despite all this, you are still standing. With this, I hope to remind you just how strong and impressive you are.

I hope to remind you that you’re not flawed, you’re not broken, you’re not weak — you’ve just been through a lot and perhaps you’re still carrying a lot of weight. From my perspective, you don’t have weak shoulders, you have strong shoulders — there’s just a lot of weight on them. But you’re handling it impressively well.

So, what are a human’s needs? One of them is emotional safety. As Tunia has discussed in her message: “Tunia, romantic relationships”, the vast majority of people around you will probably have been mostly emotionally unsafe. It is entirely possible that you have never had a close connection with an Earth human who was mostly emotionally safe. This includes people just letting you be you, without trying to change you or tell you what you should do or be or believe.

Another need of humans is that they receive unconditional love. The vast majority of Earth humans, including parents unfortunately, do not express nearly enough unconditional love. Very often the love is conditional, what I’ve described in an earlier message as dog-training-love: if the child or dog behaves well, then the adult gives them affection, but if the child or dog behaves in a way that’s inconvenient for the adult, then the adult withdraws affection. To me, it is quite heartbreaking that so many Earth humans have not had this very basic need met, of receiving unconditional love.

So most Earth humans don’t have the very foundational needs met of having mostly emotionally safe people around them and receiving unconditional love. Furthermore, many Earth humans then aren’t allowed to express the so-called negative emotions that inevitably follow with that, and are sometimes gaslighted by their parents into thinking that there is something wrong with them, when in reality the child simply didn’t receive the unconditional love that they needed.

Many Earth humans also aren’t given some very basic tools to deal with their so-called negative emotions, such as what I shared in my message: “Hakann: the observation path.” Some people only discover something like that in their 30s, and have to go out into the world to find something like that — whereas that is something that we teach to our children when they are very young.

So people aren’t given the emotional safety and unconditional love they need, then sometimes they are gaslighted into thinking there is something wrong with them when they inevitably experience emotional pain from the lack of those things, and people also aren’t given even some very basic tools and information on how to deal with their pain.

Psychologists often aren’t available and affordable, plus there is a stigma against admitting that you are in psychological pain, even though nearly everyone on Earth is. Some psychologists and certain mainstream psychology approaches frankly aren’t very good either. In some cases, the symptoms are addressed but the root cause isn’t. We still recommend going to a psychologist if you feel you need it, because there absolutely are good psychologists out there, but it is still sad that some people can try to seek help and then end up with a psychologist who either isn’t very good or isn’t a very good match, and end up not being helped much or even hurt further.

Furthermore, people are forced to sit still as children in a boring room for years on end, studying something that in most cases doesn’t interest them. Most children are offered little choice in what they wish they learn or do once they enter school, being treated almost as slaves.

People are also fed false information constantly and from everywhere. Mainstream media, politicians, teachers and school books, many organized religions, et cetera all constantly tell falsehoods to people. Sure, some of those people just repeat what they’ve been told themselves and don’t realize that they are spreading false information, but the net result is still that nearly everyone is constantly told things that are not true.

Then when people become adults, they’re placed in an often harsh economical situation, where it’s swim-or-sink, in water infested with sharks. Most people are wired to need a loving community around them to feel good psychologically, but most people don’t have such a community and it’s not easy to find one there on Earth.

I could go on. You know all these things — in fact you know them better than I do, because you are living through it.

And yet. Despite the fact that from my point of view, Earth humans are not getting the majority of their needs met — still most people not only manage to create a tolerable life for themselves, but also they manage to maintain a fundamentally good heart.

To me, this is incredibly impressive. Frankly, I am sometimes surprised that there is not more crime and selfishness there on Earth. I genuinely think you are all amazing and doing very well indeed.

I don’t think you are weak. I think you are incredibly strong — you just probably have a lot on your shoulders. That doesn’t make you weak.

I think you’re all amazing. I am very proud of you, and I am glad that I can call you my brothers and my sisters.

I absolutely do not think that I am better than you are, because since my birth nearly all of my needs have been met. I was born in physical and emotional luxury, while you have had to build a life out of nearly nothing.

Please give yourself some credit. The average soul in the universe genuinely couldn’t have done what you have done already — the average soul would just have broken psychologically, and certainly wouldn’t have woken up enough to go and look for these kinds of messages. You’re doing far better than the average soul would have done, had they been in your place.

And if you ever feel like you need to rest and it is possible in the context of your life, please do so. I am hereby giving you permission, although of course you don’t need it. You have all been through an incredible amount of hardship and it is entirely understandable that sometimes you need some rest. No matter how strong the soul may be, the body and the central nervous system and the emotional body and the inner child all need rest from time to time.

I love you so very much and I am very proud of you. You are doing amazingly well.

Your star brother,
Hakann
