Peeling Back the Layers to Find the God Beneath

Peeling Back the Layers to Find the God Beneath

By Steve Beckow

Posted on September 21, 2023

1987: The little golden star had lost its brilliance in a cloud of matter, mater, Mother. (1)

Following my vision of the purpose of life, in 1987, one of the statements I felt justified to make was that life was a journey from God to God and that Mother/Father God created it that way so that it (2) could have an experience of itself.

Every time one of us gets enlightened, God meets God. And for that meeting was all of this created.

That having been said, it follows that the purpose of our lives is to enlighten ourselves so as to give God the experience of God.

Do any of the sages – terrestrial, galactic, or celestial – agree with me so far?

In fact they do. Here is “Source Creator” channeled by Goldenlight:

“How would I get to experience Myself if it were not for you?”

“Before you there was just Me, before the Earth and all the planets and star systems and galaxies and universes there was just Me and only Me.

“I needed to create I needed to split apart and individuate so I could know Myself and see Myself and see all the wonders of creation. You are all ME!” (3)

And here is a group calling itself the Heavenly Hosts:

“[Life] is all just experience to satisfy the Creator’s desire to experience Itself through Its creations.” (4)

And finally the Divine Mother, the final authority in my universe, acknowledged my own version of the story:

Steve: The Source, the One wants to know itself. Is that correct?… And it can’t because it’s everything. So it’s taken the aspect of Yourself and designed a universe in order for us to learn our true identities. The moment of Enlightenment is when God meets God. Is that correct?

Divine Mother: That is correct…  Yes, it is designed this way. (5)

For me, there’s no one else to ask.

Bayazid of Bistun perfectly captured the moment of God meeting God:

“I went from God to God, until they cried from me in me, ‘O thou I!'” (6)

And Sri Ramakrishna humorously depicted God at that moment:

“When Siva realizes his own Self, He dances about in joy exclaiming,
 ‘What am I! What am I!’”  (7)

Hindu saints have called creation a leela, a divine play. Here is Sri Ramakrishna’s chief disciple, Swami Vivekananda:

“This universe is just the play of the Lord – that is all. It is all just for fun. “(8)

And Sri Ramakrishna himself:

“God has created the world in play, as it were. This is called Mahamaya, the Great Illusion.” (9)

It’s probably hard for us to accept such a statement when we’re down here experiencing DEW attacks, manmade hurricanes, financial markets threatened, etc. We have our hands full without thinking about a divine play.

Fair enough.  But if we’re searching for the truth of the purpose of life, which for us is to realize ourselves – and now we see why – then this is that truth.

All of us serve God’s pleasure in experiencing and knowing itself.  And the reward for us is ever-increasing delight as we peel back one layer after another to find the God beneath.

A Spiritual Cleansing of the Self

A Spiritual Cleansing of the Self

Emotional Transformation

By Swami

2025-11-07

In the past few months, on the path of self-transformation, we have already covered the important aspects of mental transformation. I will now elucidate emotional transformation for you. My goal is to cover it in a series of articles in the next eight to ten weeks.

A perspective on emotional transformation

Even though I am starting my exposition henceforth, I have already written a fair bit on emotions. In particular on positive and negative emotions, on being positive, on loving, and overcoming negative emotions. If you have not already gone through them, I encourage you to read up on them, especially – the eight worldly emotions. Without further ado, let us delve in:

Transformation of conditioned emotions

All reactions to everything in life, spring from your emotions. Generally, thoughts you do not abandon, take the form of emotions or desires. If you do not abandon the thought of disliking someone, it is likely to turn into an emotion of hatred, for instance. However, emotions are not just thoughts un-abandoned. They are more profound than that, deeper than just the plain arithmetic of discarding or keeping thoughts. Whenever your conditioned mind experiences anything, good or bad, it leaves a psychic imprint.

Yogic texts call it citta vriti. They continue to accrue and pile up over several lifetimes. Such psychic imprints keep getting stocked in a giant storehouse, your mind. Almost like the sedimentation process, you form psychic sediments, hardened imprints. They are hard to get rid of. But it can be done.

Understanding your emotions for transformation.

And this is precisely my focus as a part of Emotional Transformation: to allow you to see your emotional side, understand its cause, work on its cleansing, leading to complete emotional transformation.

Unlike units of thoughts, emotions are not absolute. They are relative. Since their primary nature is non-absolute, they can be championed with mindfulness and practice. Often, one has a reason to feel good or bad, happy or sad, kind or cruel, and so forth. Such reasons are merely excuses. There is no justification for letting a certain emotion, any emotion, overpower you.

As you cleanse yourself, stilling your mind, washing off your imprints, you start to experience a state of evenness regardless of what is going on around you. You begin to understand the relative and interdependent nature of the material world.

Transformation of emotions and the theory of relativity

A man approached Einstein once and said, “I can’t understand all these technical terms and the scientific thesis behind your theory of relativity. Can you explain it to me in simple words?”
“When you are enjoying a nice dinner with a beautiful woman sitting across you, two hours pass as if two minutes,” quipped Einstein. “And, if you are sitting on a hot plate, two minutes feel like two hours. That’s relativity.”

Chuckle. This theory applies ditto to emotions too. It is all relative. Self-delusion may lead you to believe that your emotional state is dependent on what you have or lack. Your true nature, though, your transcendental emotional state is free of all relativity and dependent phenomena.

When you start to believe that having certain things will make you happy, you weaken yourself emotionally. As soon as you do those things, you already have a list of other things you think you ought to have to feel happy. You keep ticking off the list, and the list keeps on growing. It becomes an endless quest: finding happiness or feeling good.

If your emotional state is dependent on many things, you can well imagine a lack of emotional stability. Each time any of those things go missing, it will disturb your emotional balance.

The journey of turning inward is realizing your true nature, so you may rise above worldly emotions. It does not mean that you no longer enjoy the world, but that you learn to discard any emotion at will, anytime you so wish. You begin to understand the relative nature of everything around you. Your true nature, which is absolute, is not dependent on anything relative. Seeing the relativity and rising above it is self-realization.

The twenty-year-old son of Mulla Nasrudin, the famous Sufi character, once asked, “Father, is a ton of coal too much?”
“It depends, son,” replied Mulla, “on whether you are shoveling it or buying it.”

The world will continue to be relative, but you have a choice of gaining your absolute ground while living in the material world. Such ground will give you enough room to design your own world however you wish it. And as an added bonus, anyone who comes into contact with you will bask in bliss.

In the next post, I will document an important practice for emotional transformation.

Peace,

Swami

Other Voices on Where the Self “Lives”

Other Voices on Where the Self “Lives”

By Steve Beckow

Posted on November 9, 2023

The Self lives in the deepest reaches of the heart, the Seat of the Soul. Credit: Ute Possega Rudel

Three days till 11/11.

When, at Xenia Retreat Center in Sept. 2018, I ventured in meditation into the very bottom of my heart, the depths of my heart, called the Seat of the Soul, I there found the Light of the Self.  (1)

But, after the experience, I was filled with doubts. The soul doesn’t “live” in the heart; it fills the whole of creation.  Who else can be found to support that statement? And then I promptly forgot about the matter.

But today I came across a section in From Darkness Unto Light, which features a large group of enlightened masters saying exactly that: That the Self, the soul, the spirit lives in and is to be sought and found in the heart. (2)

I feel buoyed up having found such a range of evidence in support of what sounded to me like a statement in need of corroboration. Here is that evidence:

Within the city of Brahman, which is the body, there is the heart, (1) and within the heart there is a little house. This house has the shape of a lotus, and within it dwells that which is to be sought after, inquired about, and realized. (Swami Prabhavananda and Frederick Manchester, trans., The Upanishads. Breath of the Eternal. New York and Scarborough: New American Library, 1957; c194, 74.) (Hereafter, UPAN.)

(1) Not the Heart Chakra, but the heart behind the hridayam or heart aperture.

The ancient, effulgent being, in-dwelling Spirit, (1) [is] deep-hidden in the lotus of the heart. (UPAN, 17.)

(1) The Self, the soul.

Smaller than the smallest, greater than the greatest, this Self forever dwells within the hearts of all. (UPAN, 18.)

Both the individual self and the Universal Self have entered the cave of the heart, the abode of the Most High. (UPAN, 19.)

He who … sees [the Atman] inhabiting the lotus of the heart, living among physical elements, sees Brahman indeed. For this First-Born is the immortal Self. (UPAN, 21.)

The Supreme Person, … the Innermost Self, dwells forever in the heart of all beings. (UPAN, 24.)

The Self exists in man, within the lotus of the heart, and is the master of his life and of his body. (UPAN, 46.)

Within the lotus of the heart (1) he dwells, where, like the spokes of a wheel in its hub, the nerves meet. Meditate on him as OM. Easily mayest thou cross the ocean of darkness. (UPAN, 46.)

(1) Not the heart chakra, which is shaped like a lotus, but the Hridayam, or heart aperture, which closes like a closed lotus.

I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. (1) (Exodus 8:22.)

(1) “In the midst of the earth” = I.e., in the center of the body; that is, in the Heart.

The devoted … know Him always There in the heart, Where action is not. (Sri Krishna in Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood, trans., Bhagavad-Gita. The Song of God. New York and Scarborough: New American Library, 1972; c1944, 59.) (Hereafter BG.)

There in the ignorant heart … I dwell. (Sri Krishna in BG, 87.)

The fire (1) shall ever be burning upon the altar; (2) it shall never go out. (Leviticus 6:13.)

(1) The Father or Self. (2) The Heart.

The Lord is in his holy temple: (1) let all the earth keep silence before him. (2) (Habakkuk 2:20.)

(1) The body; more specifically, the Heart.
(2) Silently meditate on Him.

Oh, Lord, dweller within; You are the light in the heart’s lotus. (Shankara in Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher lsherwood, Shankara’s Crest-Jewel of Discrimination. Hollywood: Vedanta Press, 1975; c1947, i.) (Hereafter CJD.)

Here, within this body, in the pure mind, in the secret chamber of intelligence, in the infinite universe within the heart, the Atman (1) shines in its captivating splendour, like a noonday sun. (Shankara in CJD, 53.)

(1) The Self.

The Atman, which is pure consciousness, is the light that shines in the shrine of the heart, the center of all vital force. (Shankara in CJD, 63.)

The Atman is … the real I, hidden in the shrine of the heart. (Shankara in CJD, 69.)

The first step to self-knowledge is to know that thou art composed of an outward shape, called the body, and an inward entity called the heart, or soul. (1) By “heart” I do not mean the piece of flesh situated in the left of our bodies, but that which uses all the other faculties as its instruments and servants. In truth it does not belong to the visible world, but to the invisible, and has come into this world as a traveller visits a foreign country for the sake of merchandise, and will presently return to its native land. It is the knowledge of this entity and its attributes which is the key to the knowledge of God. (Al-Ghazzali, The Alchemy of Happiness. trans. Claud Field. Lahore: ASHRAF, 1971; c1964, 21.)

(1) Al-Ghazzali here equates the hridayam or heart with the Self.

There is something nearer to us than Scriptures, to wit, the Lord in the heart to which all Scriptures come. (William Penn in Aldous Huxley, The Perennial Philosophy. New York, etc.: Harper and Row, 1970; c1944, 14.)

God, the true Philosopher’s Stone,
Who answers every prayer,
Lies hidden deep within your heart,
The richest gem of all.
(Paramahansa Ramakrishna in Swami Nikhilananda, trans., The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. New York: Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center, 1978; c1942, 235.) (Hereafter, GSR.)

The heart of the devotee is the abode of God. He dwells, no doubt, in all beings, but He especially manifests Himself in the heart of the devotee. A landlord may at one time or another visit all parts of his estate, but people say he is generally to be found in a particular drawing-room. The heart of the devotee is the drawing-room of God. (Paramahansa Ramakrishna in GSR, 133.)

One in a Million; or, Mining for Love

One in a Million; or, Mining for Love

By Steve Beckow

Posted on November 21, 2023

Part 1

An endless artesian well of love exists in the heart

Think about this for a moment.

Spiritual teachers in past ages looked upon enlightenment as a precious gift, more precious than anything we can imagine.  It happened to 1 person in … 1,000? 100,000? 1,000,000?

Ascension (Sahaja Samadhi)?  (1) It occurred only for a fraction of the numbers I just cited, as Sri Krishna tells us:

Who cares to seek
For that perfect freedom?
One man, perhaps,
In many thousands. ….

Then tell me how many
Of those who seek freedom
Shall know the total
Truth of my being?
Perhaps one only.  (2)

More modern voices? Sri Brahmananda:  “Only one in a million sincerely longs for God, and few sustain that longing.” (3)

A Christian voice? Jesus: “Many are called, but few are chosen.” (4) Many receive God’s calling card in the first experience of enlightenment (a heart opening) but few persist, given the density and lack of knowledge at the time, to arrive at the finish line and “be chosen.”

Only a few? Not this lifetime.

***

Now all that is different. We’re at the end of one age (the Piscean Age, the Kali Yuga, or Iron Age) and the beginning of another (the Aquarian Age, the Sat Yuga, the Golden Age). (5)

The density is rapidly lifting. We await the Ring of Fire, which will result in a planetary heart opening. That will answer everyone’s questions about how rebuilding the world will be possible.  Jesus described it here:

Jesus: We are approaching the Grand Finale of this stage in your awakening process [i.e., the Ring of Fire].  It is not the Magnificent and most Wondrous Event of the Great Awakening in all its glory [i.e., Ascension], but it will be the most exciting and uplifting event that humanity has ever experienced. …

Heart-centered consciousness is the state [you will then experience] in which, as humans, you feel only love for all life, knowing that you are one with all life, and in which you love and accept yourselves in your human forms without any reservations whatever, knowing, as you most definitely will, that you are following your divinely-guided path Home to Reality, and that all that occurs is part of the grand design you planned for yourselves before incarnating into form. (6)

That says it all.

Until this planet has had its Ring of Fire or heart opening, so that all the world has been introduced to this love, we may find we’re following the example of our caveman ancestors (war, oppression, selfishness) more often than our higher-dimensional star family (peace, assistance, selflessness).

***

Back to our topic. Years ago, very few people became enlightened. Very few were the slightest bit interested. But now we are.

The ages are changing. The love energies being beamed to the planet are lifting the density from us.

Where are these energies coming from? The Mother tells us:

Divine Mother: Normally, [Light] would come from me to my realms, to the dominions, to the seraphim, to the archangels, etc., to the masters, to your guardians, and then to you. But that is why each of you is shining like a star with many facets. You are being bombarded by all of us. You see, there is no shortage of what I have to share.  (7)

Now we can add in the light being beamed to us most recently, by higher-dimensional civilizations, which is credited with saving the Earth. (8)

In the face of this, people are waking up to the Company of Heaven’s message, Saul tells us:

“The Tsunami of Love is flooding the world over and over again, and more and more of you are accepting its loving embrace and choosing to engage with the world around you lovingly instead of fearfully, and that is a massive change in attitude and intent.

“Those of you who read and channel this kind of spiritual material are increasing in numbers daily, and the effect of your loving individual energy fields is shared and felt planet-wide. What you are all doing, sometimes without knowing it, is bringing into effect the essential changes that are leading to humanity’s inevitable and unstoppable mass awakening.” (9)

The Internet is spreading the word. There’s no need to travel to a distant country and sit at the feet of the masters. The masters have come to us in podcasts via the Internet.

(To be concluded in Part 2, below.)

Footnotes

(1)  Steve Beckow: I’m trying to understand what level of enlightenment Ascension corresponds to and I think it’s beyond the normal seventh-chakra enlightenment. I think it is what is called — and I’ll make this clear to readers — sahaja samadhi. Am I correct?

Divine Mother: Yes, it is beyond what you think of [as being] with your seven chakras. … We have emerged from the Third-Dimensional realm, which is that reference point for the [seven] chakra system, into the new. So yes, you are correct, in this question and in this statement.  (“The Divine Mother: Come to Me as I Come to You – Part 1/2,” Oct. 17, 2012, at http://goldenageofgaia.com/2012/10/17/the-divine-mother-come-to-me-as-i-come-to-you-part-12/.)

Part 2
Concluded from Part 1, above

The Ring of Fire will introduce us to this game-changing love

When I was trying to understand it all, Michael said to me, “classical [enlightenment] theory has served you well. Now you are on a new course.” (1)

On this new course, consistent with our service contracts and far from being aloof from us, the Divine Mother – the Creator, Preserver, and Transformer of the Multiverse –  plainly and clearly tells us:

Divine Mother: You have begun by saying that I am not simply a god among gods. I am the [Divine] Mother. And I am asking and inviting you to join with me. Is there really any further conversation to be had?

Steve: No, Mother. There is not. That is the aim of all our lives. (2)

That is not a trivial invitation. Such an invitation has never been extended to humanity within range of my (still functioning long-term) memory. If it has, it was to individuals like Jesus or the Buddha. Not to an entire generation.

***

Michael says we’re not doing things the way the sages did, as venerable as they are. We’re working by and through entrainment.

Archangel Michael: You [today] are not looking for students or followers. What you are truly doing, yes, as pathfinders, you are showing the way, but you are also bringing along the collective in entrainment.

Now the sages did not think of this, of their journey as a process of entrainment of bringing the entire collective along. You do. And when I say ‘you,’ I mean the current thinking and body of understanding and knowing in the lightworker community. So the fundamental premises have changed. (3)

People are putting out ideas on the Internet and others are lining up behind the ones they like.

Archangel Michael: Think of collective will in some ways as a very powerful entrainment.  …

Think of it in this way … collective will is in fact sparked, activated, entrained, by those individuals who are willing and able and ready, and actually moving in action to show the way. Now that does not mean – think of the entrainment of a school of fish – that you are always at the head of that school of fish. Because there are many roles, including those who are in the middle of the school and do not break away but continue this wondrous pattern of cooperation and harmony, and those who are at the tail end who do not sit and sulk and think, “Oh, I am at the end of the row here.” So, it is that beauty but it is sparked by individual will. (4)

This is an alteration, made possible by technology and the rising vibrations, to the guru/student transmission of former years.

***

As with so many other things right now, it isn’t that entrainment isn’t going to happen. It’s that we’ll choose whom we’ll follow.

If we were simply to dismiss entrainment out of hand, society would still resort to it. Society moves through leadership. Leadership works through entrainment.

I’ll be saying this over and over again in the weeks and months ahead: “Always” and “never” are blunt instruments. “Never entrainment.” “Never a digital currency.” “No restrictions ever on freedom of speech.” We require finer distinctions than these or we’ll commit errors right and left, which we’ll then need to attend to.

Individuals are leading all over the Internet and individuals are lining up in support … or is it “likes”? This is entrainment. And the entrainment of the Light/Love is destined to “win,” the Mother tells us:

Divine Mother: Make no mistake, Sweet One, Love will win because that has been my Plan always. (5)

***

It seems to me that entrainment here is the same process by which, say, teenagers follow a trend. But here we’re following masterful teachings towards a global event whose significance we probably can only barely appreciate.

We have so many mentors now and that’ll be increased by an order of magnitude once our star family can land.  (6)

But the Ring of Fire will finish the job of introducing us to the one factor with the power to make the world work – higher-dimensional or transformative love. (7)

Just as Jesus said: “Heart-centered consciousness is the state [you will then experience] in which, as humans, you feel only love for all life.” Before my heart opening, I couldn’t even imagine what that state would be like.

Looking back, I’d have no way of knowing what love was or was like until it introduced itself to me. (8) And, now, look who’s coming to dinner. Love. (9)

What is the Pineal Gland’s Function and How to Amplify It

What is the Pineal Gland’s Function and How to Amplify It

By Mindbliss

Posted on August 21, 2024

Did you know that you can develop intuition and improve your health at the same time?

Well, you can, through the pineal gland.

You may be asking, well, what is the pineal gland?

The pineal gland, also known as the pineal body, is a small pine cone shaped gland that lies deep inside the center of the brain in the epithalamus. It is a part of the endocrine system and helps to regulate melatonin, which is a chemical produced in the brain that helps the body sleep at night. The pineal gland function lies in governing the production of hormones as well as the maintenance of the circadian rhythm, which is essentially our sleep/wake cycle.

Almost all animals have a pineal gland and its role remained a mystery for a long time. The role of this tiny gland was one of the last to be discovered and has only recently begun to be understood. In fact, scientists are still studying it today and as of yet, it’s complete role and function has not been defined by researchers. It has long been associated with the idea of the “third eye”, which is a spiritual symbol of all-knowing according to yoga philosophy and often perceived as a gateway for the soul’s liberation.

In his book Kundalini Tantra, Swami Satyananda Saraswati says, “It has also been called ‘the eye of intuition‘, and it is the doorway through which the individual enters the astral and psychic dimension of consciousness. Perhaps the most common name for this chakra is “the third eye”, and the mystical traditions of every age and culture make abundant references to it. It is portrayed as a psychic eye located midway between the two physical eyes and it looks inward instead of outward.”

The idea of the third eye has also floated around science circles previously, as some believe the pineal gland is what has been leftover in the human brain of an actual, physical third eye which we eventually evolved out of. The gland itself is very small, about 1/3 of an inch long and is located in the center of the brain. It is a reddish-gray color and is primarily made up of pineal cells and neuroglia cells.

Calcification of the pineal gland often occurs as a result of excess fluoride and other mineral deposits. This may, in turn, affect the body’s ability to regulate melatonin and its circadian rhythm. The pineal gland is photosensitive and secretes less melatonin during the day and more at night; hence, why most people are awake during the day and feel tired for sleep at night time.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati says: “The pineal gland acts as a lock on the pituitary. As long as the pineal gland is healthy, the functions of the pituitary are controlled. However, in most of us, the pineal gland started to degenerate when we reached the age of eight, nine or ten. Then the pituitary began to function and to secrete various hormones which instigated our sexual consciousness, our sensuality and worldly personality. At this time, we began to lose touch with our spiritual heritage. However, through various yogic techniques, such as trataka and shambhavi mudra (third eye gazing), it is possible to regenerate or maintain the health of the pineal gland.”

The pituitary gland is a gland that acts as a master gland, controlling many of the hormonal functions in the body. It is located in the hypothalamus in the brain, which also contributes to our sleep/wake patterns  This means the pituitary and pineal gland work together for proper function. Imbalances in the pineal gland (and pituitary) can lead to sleep disturbances and problems with your sleep/wake cycle. Therefore, this tiny, little gland plays a bigger role in our lives than previously thought!

Spirituality and the Third Eye

In addition to the physiological role the pineal gland plays in the body, it is also commonly associated with spiritual thought and mystical experiences. Ancient sages and mystics believed this area of the body to be the space for ascension and enlightenment through the brain/body. It is perceived as a bridge between our inner and outer worlds, as well as to a connection to something beyond what we know to exist, to a higher state of consciousness.

It was called the “seat of the soul” by French philosopher Descartes, although science has mostly discarded his sentiments. However, now that it has been proven that melatonin is in part regulated by the pineal gland, it does lend credibility to the fact that increased melatonin production can produce transcendent or mystical experiencesduring a waking state such as meditation through its function as a psychotropic chemical.

Outside the realm of science, the pineal gland is associated with the sixth chakra, called ajna or the “third eye” center located between your eyebrows (essentially deep back in your brain). The ancient yogis who wrote The Vedas in India between 1500-500 B.C. outlined a long time ago these physiological and psychic energy pathways that run through the body as a map we can still use today to better understand ourselves. When you strengthen and activate the third eye, you awaken intuition and inner wisdom on the path to Self-Realization.

It is the second to last step before reaching total enlightenment (according to yoga philosophy, which actually occurs through the crown of the head). Psychic energy is said to accumulate in this area of the brain and body. However, in the grand scheme of the world, when this center is active and open, you can better understand your role in life and the various signs and synchronicities that occur and point you in the right direction.

Symbolically, the third eye represents union on the path to cosmic consciousness, divine wisdom, inner knowing, and intuition. This is the place where the ego is left behind and the concept of duality begins to unwind in order to embrace unity or the concept of oneness.

“When we begin to see each other through what the metaphysician calls, the third eye, we begin to know each other on a level that is beyond what our physical eyes can see.”

~ Marianne Williamson

Using this powerful center can teach you to trust in divine while managing your ability to focus your life to the best of your ability and play your part in the world. When this occurs, your actions, words, and choices reflect this state of being and a more peaceful existence is possible.

So how can you learn to amplify your pineal gland to live a better life?

Who doesn’t want a little more wisdom knowing they’re on the right path…

Here are 5 steps you can take to begin amplifying your pineal gland today:

1) Meditate Regularly

Meditation is one of the most popular ways to learn how to awaken your third eye and stimulate your pineal gland. Meditation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to relax the body and mind so that mundane thoughts of everyday life do not impede your ability to live a happy and healthy life.

There is research to support the fact that people who meditate have higher concentrations of melatonin than those who do not meditate. Closing the eyes during meditation stimulates the perception of darkness by the brain, which may be a reason for this occurring.

Mindfulness Meditation is a practical way to begin a meditation practice.

  • Find a quiet spot to sit comfortably, close your eyes and follow your breath.
  • Allow your focus to be completely absorbed in your breath. If your mind wanders, bring it back so that you become a witness to your breath.
  • Over time, you can choose what your focus is- perhaps it’s a body part, or a sound, or anything you can imagine.

2) Practice Gazing Meditation

According to ancient yogic philosophy, specific gazing techniques such as Trataka meditation can increase third eye activation. The most common way to practice Trataka is by candle gazing, or gazing at the flame of a candle without blinking for 1-3 minutes. Then, close your eyes and focus on the afterimage for several minutes until it disappears. You can repeat this several times in one session.

Another way of practicing this is to focus your eyes on a specific point in space, called dristhi in yoga. A common third eye meditation involves gazing at a spot in line with your nose, then gazing at the tip of your nose, and finally, directing your gaze upward to your brow or third eye area (called Shambhavi Mudra). You can practice each gazing point for up to 10 minutes each.

3) Try Color Visualization

Visualization is another way to amplify the power of your pineal gland and third eye center. In chakra theory from yoga philosophy, the Ajna chakra or third eye is the color indigo, which is a deep blue-purple color.

You can envision this color in your mind’s eye at the space between your brows or even deep back into the brain where the pineal gland resides. The Sanskrit word Ajna means “command”, so by visualizing this color here, you further activate your “command center” in order to live your life to its fullest potential by piercing obstacles in your path through your own willpower.

4) Eat Cleansing Foods

In order for the pineal gland to function at its optimum potential, a balanced and healthy diet is essential. Fluoride, which is frequently found in water supplies and toothpaste, calcifies the pineal gland, which lowers its function. Therefore, a cleansing diet rich in super-greens like spirulina and chlorophyll will be very beneficial for keeping the pineal gland active through the detoxification process and nutrients they provide.

5) Experiment with a Sensory Deprivation Tank

Because the pineal gland is photosensitive, exposing yourself to full sunlight as well as immersing yourself in total darkness at night will help to maintain a healthy pineal gland. If total darkness is not regularly possible, try a sensory deprivation tank. Also called “float tanks”, these containers allow you to be immersed in a closed tub of water where you feel like you can float, completely cut off from all of your senses.

“The sixth doorway is the Doorway of Vision. This relates to seeing with the eyes of love and corresponds to the energy center located in the third eye area of our forehead. When this doorway is open, we’re more able to see life through love instead of differences.”

~ Marci Shimoff

The more that you practice these techniques, the more you will begin to ‘see’ a change in your life. Gradually, you will begin to notice a shift in your thinking, acting, and way of being. There are some telltale signs that your pineal gland is healthy as you activate your third eye center.

Signs You are Amplifying Your Third Eye

  • You find deeper meaning in the events that occur in your life
  • You understand that physical reality is a manifestation of duality, and your soul seeks to be liberated from this duality
  • You never feel alone, but instead feel connected to all things, animate and inanimate
  • You feel the vibration and rhythm of everything around you
  • Your senses are heightened (touch, taste, smell, hearing, sight)
  • You begin to see and feel your own energy body and others as well
  • You identify less with your ego sense
  • Negative emotions such as anger, greed, envy, and lust begin to disappear

Remember to enjoy the process and be patient with yourself as you try to incorporate these techniques to amplify the power of your pineal gland. This tiny little gland does a lot more than we give it credit for, so when we start to nurture this aspect of our mind, body and soul connection through regular healthy practices, big changes can happen.
