The Moment You Realize You’re Free

The Moment You Realize You’re Free

Freedom isn’t granted—it’s claimed. Discover the liberating moment when you stop living for others’ expectations and begin choosing a life that truly feels like your own.

There comes a moment in life—sometimes after years of struggle, illness, heartbreak, or loss—when something inside you finally wakes up. Not with fireworks, not with fanfare, but with a quiet, undeniable clarity:

I don’t have to live like this anymore.

For some people, that moment arrives early. For others, it takes decades. For me, it began in my mid-30s, although it took years before I understood what was happening. I had spent most of my life believing I was obligated to live according to everyone else’s expectations. I moved through the world as if I belonged to it, rather than it belonging to me. I lived by rules I never agreed to and carried weights no one asked me to hold. I thought that being a good person meant saying yes, showing up, and sacrificing myself until there was nothing left.

But there is a freedom that arrives when you finally understand this truth:

You do not have to do anything you do not want to do.

That sentence might seem simple—almost too simple—but it is one of the most liberating realizations a human being can have. Most of us are reared to believe that life is a series of obligations—that we must, we should, we have to. We inherit these scripts from family, society, culture, religion, school, or tradition, and without even realizing it, we begin to live as if choice is a luxury rather than a birthright.

Making a Different Choice

The problem with living a life of obligation is that it slowly erodes the soul. You begin to feel like your existence is something being pulled out of you rather than something rising from within you. You lose your spark, your joy, your felt connection to who you truly are. You become, in a sense, a slave to expectation.

My life changed when I finally rejected that script.

After facing an illness that nearly took my life, after watching dreams collapse, after grieving losses that cracked me open, I came to understand something sacred: Freedom isn’t granted—it is claimed. No matter what pain life has handed you, no matter who hurt you, no matter what mistakes you’ve made or what storms you’ve walked through, the moment you decide no more, your life pivots. Not gradually—immediately.

You don’t need permission. You don’t need a detailed plan. You don’t need anyone to agree with you. You only need one thing: a decision.

It stops with me. I’m not living like this anymore. I choose something different.

There is a myth that change requires struggle, force, or suffering. But the deepest transformations often begin with a whisper—a quiet, inner knowing that the life you’ve been living is too small for the person you’re becoming. The moment you honor that knowing, life begins to rearrange itself around your choice.

Being a Lighthouse or a Rescue Boat

A lighthouse doesn’t chase the ships it’s trying to save. It doesn’t run into the ocean to pull them to safety. It simply stands bright—unmoving, unshaken—so that those who are ready to find their way home can see the light.

For most of my life, I wasn’t the lighthouse. I was the rescue boat—rowing into storms, trying to pull everyone else out of their darkness, even when I was drowning in my own. I believed that love meant self-sacrifice, that strength meant endurance, and that worthiness was proven through suffering.

But a lighthouse that collapses cannot guide anyone.

The greatest gift you can offer the world is not your exhaustion—it is your wholeness. It is your clarity. It is your peace.

Being a light for others does not mean abandoning yourself. It means tending to your own flame so fiercely that others are inspired to ignite their own.

Freedom Can Mean Upheaval

Sometimes, freedom does require leaving.

I left a marriage when my children were still very young. It was not impulsive, and it was not romantic. It was a sober decision made in the awareness that staying inside a relationship that could no longer grow would continue a cycle of emotional damage and dysfunction and would quietly destroy my life in the process.

I did not leave to escape responsibility. I left because remaining would have made it impossible for me to become the father my children needed and deserved. Freedom, in moments like this, is not about comfort. It is about choosing long-term life over short-term stability. It is about recognizing when loyalty to a structure becomes disloyalty to life itself.

But freedom does not always point away. Sometimes it moves you closer.

Freedom Is Not Irresponsible

In the same chapter of my life, I made a very different decision concerning my mother. I was faced with the decision of admitting her to a nursing home or senior facility. I asked myself a simple question, guided by the principle I try to live by: What would I want if the roles were reversed?

I would not want to be sent to live among strangers while my health was still good. I would want to remain present with my family for as long as possible. I would want to be known, not managed. I would want to watch my grandchildren grow.

So we chose another path together. We created a home connected to mine, where she remains independent, supported, and part of our daily life. I am in relationship with her every day. I care for her needs daily. Not because I am trapped by obligation, but because I believe in the Golden Rule, and I choose to live it.

This is what freedom looks like in real life. It is not the absence of responsibility. It is the ability to choose your responsibilities consciously. Some obligations must be renegotiated. Some relationships must be released. And others must be carried with intention, presence, and love.

Freedom is not doing whatever you want. It is choosing the life you are willing to stand behind—and then living it without resentment.

Don’t Quit Your Day Job—Yet

If you are deeply unhappy in your work, freedom looks like using the hours outside of that job to quietly build what comes next. It means learning, experimenting, creating a side business, or developing a new path while you remain responsible for the life you are supporting.

You do not leap without a landing point. You build one. Only when the new foundation can carry the weight do you step away from the old one.

Freedom still requires planning, patience, and a willingness to live through an uncomfortable transition.

Making the Decision for Freedom

When you truly understand that you are free to choose your life, something shifts. You stop operating from guilt, fear, and duty. You begin making decisions based on truth, alignment, and peace. You help others from overflow, not depletion. You show love without betraying yourself. You learn the difference between compassion and self-erasure.

And here’s the remarkable part: When you choose yourself—not from selfishness, but from self-respect—the people meant for you will rise with you. Those who only loved the version of you that served their needs may fall away, and that can hurt. But it is a sacred clearing. It is life making room for those who can meet you at the level of your soul, not your sacrifice.

Freedom does not mean you stop caring about others. It means you stop abandoning yourself to care for others. True service comes from fullness, not depletion. You cannot pour into others if you have not first filled your own cup.

So if no one has told you this yet, let me be the one:

You are allowed to start again.

You are allowed to outgrow the life you built.

You are allowed to say no.

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to choose a life that feels like yours.

You don’t have to justify your peace. You don’t have to explain your boundaries. “No” is a complete sentence.

The moment you realize you are free is the moment your life truly begins—not the life handed to you, not the one expected of you, but the one you chose with open eyes and a clear heart.

Stand like the lighthouse. Shine. Those who are ready will find you.

Pain or illness can mean you are healing

Pain or illness can mean you are healing

Tunia via channel A. S.

Posted on January 14, 2025

My dearest brothers and sisters,

This is Tunia speaking. I love you so very much.

First of all, I am very sorry that Earth continues to be so harsh and lonely. I expect and hope that things will improve this year, including on the physical and practical levels. My heart goes out to you.

This week I would like to share something that some of you will already know, but for those people hopefully it will be a useful reminder.

This week I would like to share that discomfort or pain or illness can mean that you are healing. Discomfort or pain or illness, even if it arises seemingly out of nowhere, doesn’t necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with you.

Often people assume that if they don’t feel discomfort or pain, then things are fine; and if they feel discomfort or pain, things are not fine.

And sometimes that genuinely is the case.

However, what can also be the case is that when things start deteriorating in your body, or when you experience a severe emotional blow, then you don’t feel anything in the moment. The reason you don’t feel anything is that your body quietly deteriorates, or you become more numb without noticing, or your pain gets split off into an unconscious part of yourself. But you don’t feel pain in the moment.

But then later when you start healing, whether physically or emotionally, that’s when you feel the pain or experience an illness. That doesn’t mean that you got wounded or fell ill at that moment. It merely means that that is the moment when things are okay enough in your body that you start to process it.

An example is a teacher who accumulates stress and fatigue all year. Yet during the year, while the stress is accumulating, this teacher will tell you that they are fine. But then when the summer holiday starts, this teacher gets sick, because now their body sees that there is an opportunity for rest. And this summer illness might actually just be a healing and rest and recovery process.

Sometimes if you experience pain or illness out of seemingly nowhere, what might happen is that your body is stable and doing well enough that it feels that it can start to process old pain, and that’s when you experience it. So in that case, pain or illness that seemingly comes up out of nowhere can actually be an unpleasant but real healing process that is going on. Or it might be ascension symptoms.

In general your mind and body and emotions are striving towards health. They are not going to torture you for no reason. So if for example old emotional pain comes up out of nowhere, that isn’t your mind trying to hurt you. It’s likely an attempt to fully release this pain because it was stuck in your subconscious. And all you need to do is just observe it and feel it, perhaps a few times, and then it will pass.

So: some things that get labeled as physical or emotional diseases on Earth are actually healing processes; whereas sometimes actual deterioration and actual emotional wounds aren’t labeled as a problem at all because they don’t cause pain in the moment.

That said, I am not claiming that all pain or illness that arises is always a benign healing process. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it isn’t. Therefore, it is still important to use your common sense and listen to your doctor.

With that, and with all my love, I will leave you for today.

Have a good week.

Your star sister,

Tunia

The Path of Self-Inquiry

The Path of Self-Inquiry

Hakann trough A. S.

Posted on March 9, 2024

As the channeler, I would like to share an anecdote.

I was sighing because I was tired and it was the start of a work day at my IT job. I knew I could make it through the day, and the weekend was nearby. However I felt that I didn’t have the energy to perform well at my job that day.

A Pleiadian remarked: “my dear, you have the right to be tired.”

So in my mind, my problem was that I was tired. In her mind, my problem was that I was in resistance to being tired and in resistance to the idea that I wouldn’t perform very well at my job that day. I was creating my own suffering, by being in resistance to my fatigue.

And she directly addressed what she saw as my issue, my resistance to my tiredness, while I hadn’t even realized that layer existed. I was still on the surface-level of “I am tired.”

If I had argued that it was my fatigue that was the problem, then I am pretty sure she would have gently pointed out that I should just do my best and be at peace with the outcome, because no one can do better than their best.

On to Hakann’s message.

My dearest brothers and sisters,

This is Hakann speaking. I greet you in peace and love.

This is another installment in our “path of” series. The messages whose title starts with “the path of” present a spiritual or consciousness-expanding practice.

Different practices will work better for different people. Hence, it is up to you to decide which practice you want to engage in. Of course, you can just try a practice and see if it works for you. And going to a conventional psychologist can also be a great option — none of these messages are a substitute for visiting a doctor or a psychologist, if you have physical or mental health problems.

Articles in the last few weeks have mentioned unblocking yourself. That is a good thing in general, and it can also have the side effect of helping people manifest better things in their life. So for example, if you have emotional blocks related to relationships, that might interfere with your ability to find a relationship. If you unblock that, for example with today’s technique, then you might have an easier time finding a relationship, either with or without using explicit manifestation techniques.

Today’s practice is self-inquiry. Or more specifically: examining your assumptions and associations and personal rules. If a so-called negative or so-called ugly thought or emotion arises in you, just observe it, without judging it or suppressing it or immediately trying to change it. And if you wish, you can then ask yourself: “what assumptions underlie this?” “What associations underlie this?” “What personal rules underlie this?”

In the anecdote from the channeler, for example, his personal rule was that unless he had a clear illness, he needed to work and he needed to do a good job. He was experiencing some psychological distress because he knew he would do sub-optimal work that day, and in his mind, that wasn’t acceptable. Even though there’s no law of nature that says that he needed to do a good job, and realistically speaking, no one would die and he wouldn’t get in trouble for performing poorly at his IT job for one day.

I imagine that some people might think: “Hakann, you live in paradise, you wouldn’t get it.” Well, my job is roughly speaking that of an Earth general. If I do my job poorly, people literally die. I have had to make the decision myself: I am feeling tired, do I hand over my command for the day to someone else and go rest, or do I simply work and try to do my best? And early on, I did choose poorly one time, and that probably did cause the death of two people. So yes, I understand that it does suck to be tired, and to have to choose between either saying that you can’t do the job for the day, or to do the job anyway. Although, of course, the actual victims are the two people who died, and their families.

Admittedly, I do have the luxury that I won’t get into trouble if I say that I’m going to take the day off. I understand that many of you don’t have that luxury, while still being in the position that doing a poor job causes clear harm to others. So, yes, it does suck when you are tired and you have a work day ahead of you. Indeed, it does.

Still, ultimately, that’s just the reality of physical existence. Ultimately, we all can’t do more than our best, and it doesn’t actually benefit us to have a rule that we must always perform well and then experience psychological distress because we’re violating our own rule. Just do your best, and that’s all you can do.

If you are tired, that sucks, but if you then go and judge yourself that you’re going to violate your personal rule that you must work and do a good job — well, then it double sucks. And there’s no reason for the second suck. If I’m using Earth slang properly.

Ultimately, I think people as a child were motivated, or were driven forward, by teaching them rules such as “unless you have a clear illness, you must work and you must do a good job.” Children were either literally told this rule, or they were taught it because at school they weren’t allowed to take time off, or do a poor job, if they didn’t have a clear illness.

Honestly I think it’s pretty sad that Earth children are driven forward like this, and that adults didn’t take the time to set up an education system where children learn because they are genuinely excited and self-motivated to learn certain things. Because if you have a healthy child, they have plenty of energy and motivation and curiosity to learn things.

And I think it’s pretty sad that some people have an almost slave driver – slave type of relationship with themselves, where they’re trying to drive themselves forward by trying to force themselves to conform to certain rules, such as needing to perform well at all times.

I know people feel that only this way they can perform well, but actually, this is just what people were taught as children. It’s actually more effective to just have compassion for yourself and to do your best. Sure, it’s possible that your best isn’t good enough, but you’ll still perform at least as well if you have compassion for yourself and do your best, rather than if you are harsh with yourself. Plus it’s less stressful.

Yes, sometimes if you don’t perform well then other people get hurt, or you may get fired. Sometimes the situation you are in does indeed suck. But none of that actually proves that it’s beneficial to force yourself to conform to some personal rule and then stress out when you can’t live up to your own personal rule.

Being harsh with yourself actually isn’t ever productive, it’s just a pattern you were taught when you grew up. Being compassionate with yourself is actually more productive. Not to mention that you’re amazing for surviving on Earth for as long as you have, and you deserve all the love and respect in the universe.

I love and respect you.

So, that was one example of examining your assumptions and associations and personal rules. Namely, the channeler was tired, experienced psychological distress because of it, and we discovered that he had an underlying personal rule that didn’t actually make sense and was just a remnant from his childhood.

Let’s look at another example. Say that you notice that you emotionally dislike a person, even though the person has never harmed you or wronged you. Well, you can just observe that and then think or say out loud: “what assumptions underlie this?” The answer might just pop into your mind. If it doesn’t, you can try to find the answer via journalling or talking to friends.

For example, you might realize that you think that he is a certain type of person, because of the way he looks or speaks. However, your assumption that he is that type of person might not be accurate. Furthermore, even if he really is that type of person, you also might have unreasonable negative assumptions about that type of people.

In the same way, if you find yourself emotionally disliking a person, you might observe that and ask yourself: “what associations underlie this?” Then you might realize, for example, that you dislike this person because he reminds you of something or someone unpleasant from your past. Or you might realize that this person represents something to you that you would like to have or be, and you might be resentful that you don’t have it.

So for example, Tom might see a rich person and emotionally dislike him, either because Tom just assumes that the rich person must be evil, or because Tom wants to be financially comfortable too and is resentful of this rich person who has attained wealth.

Or Anne might have been hurt by men, and therefore she might dislike men, or dislike men who remind her of the man who hurt her. And while I have empathy for Anne, and while ideally people shouldn’t get hurt, and while it’s not fair, ultimately it’s up to Anne to do her inner work and to do her healing work here.

Of course, if Hank has been hurt by a woman and he now dislikes women, then ultimately it’s up to Hank too to do his inner work and his healing work.

Also, you might have to ask yourself multiple times what assumptions, associations or personal rules you have, in order to go beyond the surface layer. So for example, you might see a person on the street who is dressed in a very sloppy way and find yourself judging that person very harshly. You can observe that and then ask yourself: what assumptions do I have about this person? The answer might come back: because of the way he dresses, I assume that this is an irresponsible person. Okay, but that doesn’t yet explain why you are emotionally annoyed at this person. So then you can ask, for example: what associations do I have with irresponsible people? And then, with this second question, you might arrive at the real answer why you are annoyed at this person.

So those are examples of things you might find if you ask yourself: “what assumptions underlie this” or “what associations underlie this?” You can also observe and ask yourself a third question, namely “what personal rules underlie this?” Then you might find, for example, that you are triggered by this assertive person because you were taught as a child the personal rule that you must be quiet and pleasant, and that you are too much if you ask things for yourself or if you inconvenience your parents. Or perhaps you were taught the personal rule that you are only allowed to make claims and have opinions that you can rationally back up.

I have been discussing the situation where you investigate your assumptions, associations and personal rules if you emotionally dislike a person. However, you can ask yourself these questions whenever any unpleasant or so-called negative emotion or thought arises in you.

It is good to not judge whatever comes up, or be harsh to it or to yourself. If you notice a so-called negative or so-called ugly emotion or thought arising in you, just observe it, without trying to judge it or suppress it or immediately try to change it. And if you wish, you can then ask yourself: “what assumptions underlie this?” “What associations underlie this?” “What personal rules underlie this?”

If none of that helps, another question you can ask yourself is: “when did I first feel or think this painful thing?”

Please treat yourself with kindness — you are amazing, you deserve to be treated with all the love and all the kindness in the world. And all your inner parts are welcome and worthy of love, from my perspective.

I hope this was helpful.

Finally, I know the situation on Earth is very tough. We’re doing as much as we think is wise to do. We are very much not forgetting you, and we have a very deep love and respect for you. Earth is incredibly harsh right now, and I think many people are doing unbelievably well given how hard it is. You have all my love and respect.

Your star brother,

Hakann

In this new world of chaos how do you fare?

In this new world of chaos how do you fare?

By Corinna McPherson

Posted January 8, 2024

Ilya Prigogine, Nobel Prize-winning Scientist; by the power of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics showed us how there is no change without chaos.

And yet we are programmed to react negatively to chaos.

Our every instinct tells us to fight or flight from it. Or freeze.

There’s no doubt chaos triggers the negative stress hormones of most.

Social conditioning has masked the purpose of stress. We have not learned to trust in our natural abilities.

Instead; our reaction to stress; the chaos that comes to emancipate us; has been labelled an illness and treated as such.

As such; our stress hormones cause us to ‘rust’ like old bicycles; not to adjust our sails like the ‘open systems’ we are. Negativity grabs hold of us further exacerbating the chaos; filling us with chemicals messengers which do not allow our progression - our awakening to the innate magic of who we really are; and what we can achieve once we learn to embrace chaos as it is meant to be - simply a sign that change is needed.

Yes. The chaos in our lives is simply a signpost for us to change direction; the Universe responds to us and is constantly guiding our journey. But most of us miss the signs or see them when it is just too late.

Perhaps you’ve heard the analogy of ‘The feather, the brick & the bus’? Think about past events in your life. Sometimes with hindsight we remember the Universe sent us little warnings; like whispers or soft feathers. But we weren’t in tune enough and we didn’t trust enough so we missed them. We didn’t make the turn the Universe wanted us to take. And so we continued on the old path only to have a ‘brick’ thrown at us. More chaos, this time harder, more painful, more difficult to navigate. More stress. If the brick hits hard enough it can wake us up and often we are able to avoid the preverbial bus; which always comes next; unless, of course, we are aware; awake; in tune with the frequency of the Universe.

Illness and Health

Illness and Health

Message from Jeshua

Channel: Pamela Kribbe

Posted on July 18, 2023

Dear friends, I welcome you warm-heartedly and send you all my love. I love you all so dearly. My love for you is not only universal in nature but it also has a personal touch, for I have known many of you when I was here on earth among you.

I am Jeshua. I have lived on earth as Jesus and I have been among people to testify to the love which is available to all of us from the Source that lies within ourselves. Now the time has come for you to take over the torch. You are the seeds that blossom today. This is the meaning of the rebirth of Christ. I, the one man who once lived on earth, am not the one who is bound to return; instead, the universal power of the Christ energy is now being birthed within you. I am so pleased to support you in this process by being with you in this way.

At the beginning of this session, Pamela and Gerrit asked me which subjects I would like to address and I told them: “It does not matter, I just want to be with them.” I simply want to touch you with my energy and to remind you of your own greatness. In extending my energy to you, my sole purpose is that you feel the flame of clarity within, the flame of your truth. That is the essence of the Christ energy. I have been an early carrier of this flame but now it is time for you to carry on the torch.

It is important to acknowledge who you are on the inside.

You carry this torch with you and you must realize that the time has come to show it to the world, for the world is waiting for it. This is a time of transformation, a time of great changes which show many faces, both dark and light. The time is ready for people who have a wider view, who can watch all manifestations of dark and light from a calm and peaceful state of mind and who are able to be present in love, without judgment.

Today I will talk about illness and health.

But remember basically it is my concern to let you feel that I am here, to let you feel that you are equal to me and that I am equal to you. We are one, we are carriers of a particular Light energy and we have been working for a long time, during many lifetimes, to ground this energy and anchor it to the earth. That is your job. That is your mission.

The time has come to let go of me as someone you look up to. I am a brother and a friend to you, not a master you should follow. I want to surround you with the energies of love and truth. That is all I can do. Now it is your turn to stand up for yourself and to let the Light of your torches shine.

Illness and health – this is a subject that comes up in the lives of all people sooner or later. First I would like to say something about what illness actually is. All diseases have a spiritual origin. I will explain this by drawing a distinction among the different bodies you have. In addition to the physical body visible to all of you, you also possess an emotional body, a mental body and something you may call a spiritual body.

Illness mainly starts in the emotional body. It is from here that certain blockages settle themselves in the physical body on the material level. Often beliefs from the mental body contribute to the development of emotional blockages and thus to the manifestation of illness. I am talking of deeply ingrained beliefs or habits of thinking. Often these are beliefs about what is right and wrong about yourself.

Judgments may literally create a blockage in your emotional energy system. At those places where the blockages arise where the emotional energy is not allowed to flow freely, something of a dark energy becomes visible in the aura. This energy may settle down in the body. It need not necessarily be so, for this process takes quite some time and there is enough opportunity to turn things into balance emotionally, before a disease displays itself.

Generally your emotions tell you when your energy is not flowing, and when you turn your attention to their message and honor it, the blockage gets released. For instance you may feel upset or angry every time you have to do a particular thing and if you look more closely at those emotions, they will tell you that you are forcing yourself to do things that do not truly affirm who you are and who you want to be. However if you systematically ignore your anger and force yourself to do things you truly don’t feel good about, then the emotion goes underground, so to speak. It removes itself from your awareness and it expresses itself in your physical body. The repressed emotion is an energy that wants to be heard by you. When it expresses itself through the body it will manifest as a physical complaint.

Generally a physical complaint or illness points at an emotion inside you that you are largely unaware of. The physical symptom makes it visible to you on another level and in this way actually helps you get in touch with the blockage. In this way physical symptoms or pain are the language of the soul. The soul longs for full communication among all of its parts. The soul feels happy when there is a free flow of energy and a continuous renewal of all aspects of itself. Blockages prevent the energy from flowing freely and that depresses the soul.

Illness thus has the function of an indicator: it shows you where you are in need of healing.

Although illness seems to be negative in the sense that you are bothered by all kinds of symptoms and pains, the key is to interpret illness as a message or a signpost. In doing so it becomes easier to cooperate with the disease instead of resisting it.

The soul has many ways to communicate to you. The soul’s favorite way is to speak to you through your intuition: quiet feeling tones, hunches, soft whispers of the heart. If it cannot reach you in that way, you will be alerted by your emotions. The emotions speak a louder language. They clearly show you that you have to look within and find out what is igniting that emotional response. Whenever you are strongly affected emotionally you need to find out why and what it means to you. If you become silent and listen carefully, the soul will tell you. If you resist or deny your emotions the soul will speak to you through your body. The body is an intelligent being, highly responsive to not just the material things (like food and liquids) you take in but to the emotions, feelings and thoughts you have. The body is meant to be a communicator. It is not a mere vessel to dwell in. It has an intelligent function to play in helping the soul express and know itself in matter.

How can you learn to understand the language of your soul if it is expressed through the body as an illness?

At the moment the disease manifests itself it may not be clear what message is conveyed by it to you. In fact you have denied the emotion it represents consistently for a long time, so it is by definition not obvious what your illness has to tell you. Understanding the spiritual meaning of the illness is a process. It is a quest, an inner journey on which you gradually restore the communication process.

To embark upon this journey, you first have to accept your illness. The initial reaction to illness is often one of denial or resistance. You would prefer the disease to disappear as soon as possible because it frightens you. You are scared of failure, decline, imperfection and ultimately death. The panic that seizes you when you are confronted with physical failure or illness prevents you from opening up to a broader perspective on illness. You could consider illness in another light. You might experience it as a messenger of change, as an invitation to return to something precious that you have lost.

To comprehend and cooperate with the “signpost function” of illness, it is very important to say yes to the symptoms and pains which display themselves in your body. In saying yes, in accepting the state of your physical body and in being willing to listen to the language of your soul through it, you have actually solved half the problem. The real problem is not the disease itself but that which it represents, the underlying blockage(s). The disease buttonholes you so to speak and forces you to look at the underlying blockage. In turning to the disease and saying yes with your heart and soul, you will already have solved part of the blockage without even knowing precisely what the disease wants to tell you. Part of the communication is being restored just by your willingness, your patience and determination to take this inner journey upon you.

HOW

You may find yourself resisting it, being angry or desperate about it and therefore not listening to what the malfunction is already telling you. Frequently you get specific clues. For instance, the body’s inabilities indicate that you must let go of certain obligations, spend more quiet time by yourself, be less active and more attentive to your needs. Although you may not yet know how to interpret your physical situation from a spiritual level, quite often the behavior that the ailment forces upon you is a big clue. By limiting yourself in certain areas, it is putting a spotlight on things that were in the dark before. How is it with your ability to be patient and gentle with yourself? Can you really take good care of your physical and emotional needs? Illness always brings up these questions, and to confront and accept the emotions they arouse is part of the healing process.

To really start the healing process you have to say yes to it all: the pain, the discomfort, the anxiety, the insecurity and the anger. You have to look it in the eye, be friendly with it and reach out your hands to it. It is coming to you for healing. It is not something you have to get out of the way as fast as possible. It is not a coincidence that it has entered your life now.

If you ignore your body’s language and you keep resisting the disease, it is very difficult to get through to the spiritual essence and meaning of the disease. There is too much anger and fear surrounding it. You only achieve true inner freedom in coming face to face with your disease, with your pain and discomfort and also with your feelings of fear and disgust. Embrace them and then ask them quietly and with an open consciousness: what do you want to tell me?

In your society it is not self evident to be intimate with your own body. Talking to your body like a being that deserves love and respect is not considered to be natural. You are dished up many idealized images in your society about what your body should look like, what fitness and health imply and what you should or should not eat and drink. There are all kinds of rules and standards about what a long and healthy life is like.

But all these idealized pictures bear no relationship to the path of the soul. The path of the soul is highly individual. Therefore to find the truth about any illness, ailment or distress that you suffer in your body, you need to tune into yourself in a very intimate way, leaving behind all these general, often artificial standards and rules

You are asked to release all these outside standards and to search for your own truth deep within.

This is a great challenge to you, for the fear and panic that seize you in the case of an illness make you look too quickly to authorities outside yourself. You reach out to external authorities for advice and comfort. This may be a medical doctor or an expert in alternative treatment; basically it makes no difference. The key is that out of fear, you tend to give up your own responsibility and partially hand it over to somebody else

Of course there is nothing wrong with listening to an expert’s advice and quite often this is a very sensible thing to do. But always you need to take this knowledge inside you and weigh it in your own heart. Feel whether the advice resonates with you or not. Only you are the true creator of your life, the master of your own body. Only you yourself know what is best for your own body. In the deepest sense of the word, you are the creator of your own body.

Since illness represents a stuck emotion that is partly beyond the scope of your consciousness, it is not always easy to understand what the disease or the symptom represents. Sometimes it seems very hard to find out what the soul is trying to tell you by a specific disease.

At this point you need to go inside and examine yourself thoroughly, in the sense of gradually becoming aware of the kind of energy that manifests itself in the disease and what it is trying to tell you.

Regaining intimacy with your own body requires practice; it is not self evident. Do not give up on it too easily. When you are dealing with persistent complaints, try to examine them once again. Take a moment to relax yourself and then travel with a neutral awareness to the places in your body where the illness is expressing itself.

Ask the pain or the disease to take the shape of a living being so that you can talk to it. Ask it to appear as an animal, a child or a human being. Or ask it to appear as a guide, in whatever shape. Use your imagination! The imagination is a precious instrument to discover the deepest stirrings of your soul.

If you do so and when you notice that your body answers – with images or feelings – you will experience joy. You will feel happiness about the regained intimacy. The body speaks to you and its role as a communicator is restored! This is a breakthrough.
As soon as you realize that you are able to know your body from the inside and that you are the only one who can do this for yourself, you will feel more confident. This self confidence makes it easier for you to feel what the disease is trying to tell you. It prevents you from brushing aside the answers that you receive from your inner self because they do not fit in with general ideas from the outside world. Intimacy with the body is very precious in all circumstances but particularly when the body is ill or in distress.

The way to let your body talk is love. You will not encourage communication with your body if you try to remove the disease by ardently repeating healing affirmations or visualizations to yourself. That still is form of struggle or resistance. The key is that you come to understand the meaning of the sick part of your body. If you understand this, things will be transformed and emotional blocks can be removed. This is how the healing process works – not fighting the disease, one way or another, but accepting it like a friend who wants to show you the right direction. This is difficult to understand, for illness frightens and distresses you. However accepting and understanding your illness is the only way to true healing. Illness wants to take you back home.

CHRONIC AND TERMINAL ILLNESS

The purpose of illness is to obtain a better and deeper understanding of yourself. Once you do this and go along with the inner healing process, physical recovery is often the result. However it does not always work this way. Some diseases do not disappear even when it seems you have gone down to the root of the underlying emotional blockage. This is the case with chronic diseases.

In the case of a chronic disease there are persistent physical problems that keep recurring. Especially during vulnerable periods in which you more or less lose touch with your inner self, the symptoms recur sometimes even in an increasing degree. This can be quite demoralizing. Therefore it is important to consider the disease from a broader perspective.

People with a chronic disease undertake quite an arduous task. On the soul level, they have agreed to confront the fears that come up in the context of their illness and to confront idealized pictures of how someone should perform in life. To take up this challenge shows great courage.

It often happens that a soul chooses a chronic disease to work out a specific issue in a highly focused way. The disease throws you back on particular emotions each time. There is an emotional pattern that accompanies the illness. To deal with these emotions time and again is quite a heavy task but it bears many fruits for the soul.

  • Quite often these lives have a great profundity and an inner richness that is not always noticeable to others. Therefore it is not supportive to constantly strive or hope for an improvement of the medical condition.
  • The fact is that the disease often proceeds in a spiral movement, helping you grow on the inner level in circular movements upwards, although apparently you relapse into the same physical symptoms each time.
  • On the spiritual level, you do not fall back but you reach ever greater depths in dealing with emotions that possibly have been overlooked by you in the past, even in past lives.

This also applies to hereditary or congenital physical defects. In this respect you sometimes speak of karma but I am careful with this concept, as you have a tendency to associate karma with crime and punishment. This is not how it works. The soul has the sincere desire to know itself to the fullest and to be free. This is its deepest desire. Starting from this ardent wish the soul sometimes undertakes ailments, diseases and physical defects which help it reach its aim. It is certainly not a question of paying off your debts. It is a deep intent to be set free and sometimes the best way to get there is to experience extremely difficult circumstances within your own body. For this intention we can only have the greatest respect, especially in your society where inhuman ideal images are cherished as to how to be functional, useful, beautiful and successful. These idealistic ideas make it even more difficult to live your life with a handicap and to nevertheless experience it as meaningful and joyful.

Finally, I want to say something about incurable terminal disease.

Sometimes it will be obvious that someone will not survive a disease anymore. The body gradually succumbs to the disease. The “earthly frame” does not persist. At that moment what does the soul that finds itself within the body do? As long as you keep resisting the disease, you cannot get in touch with your soul and your inner knowing that tells you that it is time to say goodbye. Sometimes you sense in advance that you have to leave, but the idea strikes you with such horror and sorrow that you keep on fighting. You are eager to try another treatment or wait for that new medicine to be launched.

This is quite understandable and I certainly do not want to condemn this attitude, but you are hurting yourself in a terrible way. If you let go and allow death to come closer, you will notice that death is not an opponent but instead is a friend. Death releases you from the struggle.

If you go along with what death wants to tell you, you will pass through several stages before the actual process of dying takes place. These stages have to do with a gradual release of all earthly things – of your beloved, of your earthly surroundings, of your senses with which you observe everything around you. This is a beautiful, natural process.

It would be a pity to overshadow this process by an attitude of battle in which you try to hold on to life at any expense. Often by then the body has already become so fragile that life is not worth living anymore. Let it go. Death is a liberator who is there to serve you. Death is not your enemy. Death brings you new life.

When you are with someone who is incurably ill and when you feel that person knows that they are going to die, try to talk about it softly and carefully. It is a relief to the person who is passing over. The dearest and most precious thing you can do for a dying person is to sit next to them and hold their hand. There is nothing else you need to know or to be able to do in accompanying a dying person.

Terminal care is very important in your society. One day all of you will face this within your own family or your circle of friends. Simply be present with a dying person and feel the journey that is arriving. Feel the mighty, powerful moment in which the soul leaves the body and returns to the other realms, to its home.

Do not consider a disease that leads to death as an enemy who you will lose to in the end. It is not a battle. Quite frequently death comes to release you from even more pain and misery. You are certainly not a loser. You will simply continue your path in another way.

Sometimes there are particular issues you would have liked to live through or overcome during this life and these issues cannot be finished. This may distress you and not just you but those who stay behind as well. Nevertheless I ask you to leave this in peace, for there is a deeper wisdom at work that is guiding you and will bring you and your loved ones together in new and better circumstances. One day you will be together again and will celebrate life.

Today my biggest plea with regard to illness is to really embrace your illness. Surround the illness with love and awareness and let it lead you into a deeper understanding of yourself. Entrust yourself to the illness and allow yourself to enter into a more profound communication with yourself. Surrender does not mean to be passive or bitter about your illness but to cooperate with it in an active way, like a friend.

I embrace you all with my love and I ask you to feel my presence today, the presence of the Christ energy. Feel the love available to all of you in sickness and in health. There is so much love everywhere around you and you can feel it as soon as you let go of your judgments. You have so many judgments about what you do and don’t deserve, about what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong, about all the things you still have to do and achieve. Let it go. Love is present here and now for all of you.
