Who Murdered "God’s Banker"?

Who Murdered God’s Banker?

Banco Ambrosiano Scandal

The apparent suicide in June, 1982 of an Italian financier known as ”God’s banker,” who was found hanged beneath London’s Blackfriars Bridge, has added to the mystery of a major Italian financial scandal in which the Vatican appears heavily involved.

Five days after he vanished, his secretary jumped to her death from a window of the Milan bank. Mr. Calvi 61 years old was found in London hanging from a rope under Blackfriars Bridge on June 18, 1982.

He had joined Milan’s Banco Ambrosiano as a clerk, worked his way up to become its president and, along the way, through a series of spectacular deals, transformed what had been a modest regional bank into a major financial power, with assets of $18.7 billion in 1981.

”The Ambrosiano affair makes everyone wonder about the Vatican’s finances, but it really illustrates the fragility of the international banking system that we are all trying to preserve,” said Guido Carli, a former governor of the Bank of Italy and now a prominent industrialist.

As usual with such scandals in Italy, there are also unverifiable reports of the involvement of organised crime figures and even a recently discovered secret Masonic lodge opposed to the government that are somehow involved.

There are also reports that Banco Ambrosiano may have been a target of the British secret service, which is said to suspect it of financing Argentine arms purchases during the war over the Falkland Islands.

The Bank of Italy first became suspicious about Banco Ambrosiano in 1978 during a general crackdown on bank fraud, but immediately ran into a heavy political opposition.

This Vatican bank is officially known as the Institute of Religious Relations, from 1971 to 1989 its President was Archbishop Paul Marcinkus from Cicero, Illinois. Before that, he worked as a bodyguard for Pope Paul VI. However, he will be remembered for a scandal that broke out in 1982.

 Suicide Corrected as Murder

The scandal began with the collapse of Banco Ambrosiano, one of Italy’s largest private banks, with a debt of $1.4 billion. Soon after, Roberto Calvi, the bank’s managing director and friend of Marcinkus, was found dead hanging under a bridge over the river Thames in London, in England.

The location of Blackfriars bridge was seen as indicating a link to P2 because members of the illegal group referred to themselves as ‘frati neri’, Italian for ‘black friars’.

T
he death of Calvi, the bank’s chairman and a P2 member, was initially deemed to have been a suicide. But subsequent investigations pointed to it having been a murder which Italian prosecutors believe was the work of the Sicilian Mafia.

The organised crime syndicate had used Ambrosiano to recycle funds, some of which were moved out of Italy via the Vatican bank. No-one was ever convicted for carrying out or commissioning Calvi ‘s murder.

Five people, including mafia boss Masonic grand master Licio Gelli were tried in connection with his murder, but were all acquitted. It is best known internationally for having been at the heart of a murder mystery involving both the Mafia and the Vatican that centred on the death of “God’s banker”!

It appears that the Vatican, through the Vatican Bank, is the main shareholder of Banco Ambrosiano and that they have channelled a billion dollars from the bank to 10 subsidiaries. Several rumours surrounding the scandal were, that other shareholders at the bank were involved in this organised crime and some were even members of the secret Masonic lodge-P2.

When Italian investigators tried to interview Marcinkus about the scandal, he was uncooperative. He refused to leave the Vatican and even refused to answer questions, referring to his diplomatic immunity.

Marcinkus was eventually indicted, but he never went to trial because the charges against him were dismissed. He remained in charge of the Vatican bank for seven years.

Prince Bernhard vetoed Pope John Paul I

The scandal even gave rise to some conspiracy theories. The most famous was used in the plot of Godfather Part III, as Pope John Paul I was assassinated by the mafia on orders in August 1978. John Paul I had been chosen as Pope in 1978, but Prince Bernhard the prince of the Netherlands vetoed it. He was found dead in bed after only 33 days in office. The official cause of death was a heart attack, but no autopsy was performed. According to the conspiracy theory, he was killed because he wanted to end the relationship between the church and the private bank.

According to senior officials investigating the scandal who do not wish to be identified, the Banco Ambrosiano affair centres on the close but ambiguous relationship between Mr. Calvi and Archbishop Paul C. Marcinkus, a 60-year-old native of Cicero, Ill., who for the last 10 years has run the Vatican’s free-wheeling but extremely secretive bank. The bank’s formal name is Instituto per le Opere de Religione, the Institute for Religious Works, and it is commonly referred to as I.O.R.

Archbishop Marcinkus, a former chief of papal security, has been a controversial figure in financial circles because, as head of the Vatican bank, he was responsible for the Vatican’s losing a reported $30 million in the collapse in 1974 of the business empire of Michele Sindona, the Sicilian financier.

During 1980 and 1981, investigating officials say, the late Mr. Calvi mounted an extensive lending program to the Peruvian, Nicaraguan and Nassau subsidiaries of the Banco Ambrosiano group, using funds borrowed in the Eurodollar market that eventually totalled some $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion.

Most of this money was then lent to a series of Panamanian companies with names such as Bellatrix Inc., Manic Inc. and Astrolfine Inc., most of which are thought to have no more than mail addresses. The loans were granted roughly evenly by Banco Ambrosiano in Milan and by its Luxembourg subsidiary, Banco Ambrosiano Holdings.

But Mr. Calvi lent these funds, investigators say, only after receiving what bankers call ”letters of comfort” from the Vatican bank. These letters, though vaguely worded, implied that the Vatican had an interest in the companies and was aware of their borrowing plans. Although such letters do not constitute a legal guarantee that the signatory will repay the loans, they are often issued to reassure lenders that a borrowing company has reputable backing.

But the Vatican bank also demanded and received what investigators call a ”counter letter” signed by Mr. Calvi and absolving it from all legal and financial responsibility for the loans to the Panamanian companies.

Investigating officials believe the Vatican did have an interest in the Panamanian companies and probably controlled a number of them. But they are convinced that Mr. Calvi was also part owner and effective manager of most of the companies and used the money they borrowed to buy shares in Banco Ambrosiano and probably in other companies as well.

By now, one senior official involved in the investigation estimates, the Panamanian companies own around 20 percent of Banco Ambrosiano.

House of Cards

As interest rates rose and the dollar strengthened, investigators found it likely that it became increasingly difficult for Mr Calvi to pay his loans in dollars with the dividends from his shares, which were often paid out in weak Italian lira. To remain solvent, he was forced to borrow more.

”It was a house of cards that was bound to fall down,”

one official said.

There is speculation that the Archbishop may have agreed to the deal to help out an old colleague and financial adviser since Banco Ambrosiano is regarded as one of Italy’s ”Catholic” banks with longstanding links to the Vatican. He may also have wished to protect the Vatican’s own stake in Banco Ambrosiano, which is assumed to be far more than the 1.8 percent shown by the latest official figures.

In the view of the Italian Treasury Minister, Nino Andreatta, and of Mr. Campi, the central bank’s governor, the Vatican acted improperly in issuing letters of comfort to Banco Ambrosiano at the same time as it asked the bank to absolve it from any responsibility for the Panamian companies. They believe it must therefore bear at least a moral responsibility for any losses incurred, according to senior officials.

Toward the end of his life, Mr. Calvi is said to have become increasingly involved with suspected underworld figures as his needs for ready cash increased. There are also rumours that he lent Peru $200 million to buy Exocet missiles for the Argentine forces during the Falkland war and thus became a target for the British secret service.

In light of the rumours, officials at the normally staid Bank of Italy and Finance Ministry expressed amazement at the finding by a London coroner that Mr. Calvi did indeed commit suicide by hanging himself under the bridge. The common reaction was:

”Why bother to go to London to do that?”

Scandalised Money Laundering

Paolo Cipriani, director of the bank, and his deputy Marco Tullio have resigned after the arrest by Italian tax police of a Vatican monsignor who used to work as a senior account manager in the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA), which manages Vatican real estate holdings. The monsignor, Nunzio Scarano, is being questioned in jail over allegations of money laundering, corruption and fraud.

Pope Francis is scandalised and angry at the goings on behind the scenes at the IOR. He has decided to begin his planned clean-up of the Roman Curia, the central government of the Church, with a complete shakeup at the IOR.

Vatican security officers have been instructed to freeze any attempt to meddle with IOR documents, while an internal commission of inquiry with wide powers prepares a secret report on the current financial shenanigans, for the eyes of Pope Francis only.

The Vatican Bank has a damaged image at a time when the Pope is urging his flock to turn their attention to the plight of the world’s poor. There is speculation that one of Pope Francis’ options could be to dissolve the IOR altogether and transfer all Vatican banking to a reliable commercial bank.

5 Top Anxiety-Relieving Foods

5 Top Anxiety-Relieving Foods

By GreenMedInfo Research Group

Posted on June 17, 2023

Is anxiety affecting your life negatively? Don’t fret — you can soothe your spirit and hunger with these five anxiety-relieving foods that are good for your body and your mood.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, nearly two-thirds of U.S. residents surveyed in 2017 were “extremely or somewhat anxious” about the health and safety of themselves and their families, with more than a third feeling “more anxious overall” than they did in 2016.[i] With more recent data indicating that feelings of anxiety are on the rise, and have since skyrocketed due to COVID-19 and related shutdowns and stay-at-home orders, it’s important to know what to do to keep your central nervous system calm and supported during times of increased stress.

While allopathic doctors generally advocate pills to treat anxiety, there is mounting evidence showing that these medications can have many negative side effects including addiction, depressionsuicideseizuressexual dysfunctionheadaches and more.

Practitioners of natural health know that food is the best medicine, and some foods are better than others when it comes to soothing body and mind. Here are five of the top foods to eat to stimulate feelings of calm and well-being from the inside-out.

1. Fish

Cold-water fishes like salmon, cod, mackerel and sardines are under-consumed in the U.S., which culturally favors protein from sources like beef and chicken. This is a dietary misstep if you want to quell anxious energy. Rich in the essential amino acids L-lysine and L-arginine as well as healthy omega-3 fatty acids, increasing your intake of clean fish may help relieve anxiety by promoting a healthy brain and enhanced mood.

Studies have shown that individuals with L-lysine deficiency are at higher risk of anxiety, while L-lysine supplementation lowers anxiety and reduces the impact of stress. In clinical trials, supplementation with L-arginine reduced synthesis of cortisol, a major stress hormone, in healthy human subjects.

Consumption of adequate levels of omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to enhance mood and reduce the risk of anxiety. Supplementation for a period of three months with a high-quality source of omega-3s has even been shown to support withdrawal-related anxiety in a trial with substance abuse patients.[ix] Just a few servings per week of healthy fish may be sufficient to receive these benefits.

Widespread pollution of our oceans as well as the environmental impacts of overfishing have made some people wary of eating fish. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has produced a useful guide to choosing the most nutritious and clean fish from sustainable sources, including a calculator to help you customize portion sizes for optimal nutrition while minimizing negative impact on the planet.

2. Nuts

Many essential proteins and fats are available from nuts like Brazil nuts, almonds and walnuts, plus vitamins D and E and the mineral selenium, all proven to reduce anxious feelings.

Vitamin D has been studied for its positive effects on mood, possibly due to its action as a steroid hormone with many important functions in the brain. Vitamin D deficiencies have been linked to multiple behavioral disorders, including anxiety and depression in patients with fibromyalgia. A study on mice showed that specimens with fewer vitamin D receptors in the brain demonstrated increased anxiety-like behaviors, suggesting that adequate vitamin D intake can be an important factor for healthy emotional behavior.

Almonds are a potent source of vitamin E, a powerful scavenger of damaging free radicals, which is linked to a healthy brain response to fearful conditions. Vitamin E supplementation was found in one animal study to improve fear response in rats that were exposed to healthy vitamin E levels in utero, versus impaired fear response and increased anxiety in rats whose mothers were deprived of this essential nutrient during pregnancy. One cup of ground almonds (a great addition to many recipes) provides 125% of an adult’s Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamin E.

Brazil nuts are one of the best sources of selenium, an essential trace mineral that is critical for optimal health.  A clinical trial of adults who were supplemented with 100 micrograms (mcg) of selenium per day reported less anxiety than the placebo group. According to the report, the lower the level of selenium in the diet, the higher the levels of anxiety, depression and tiredness among patients, all of which decreased following five weeks of selenium therapy.

Adults over 14 years of age are recommended to intake 55 mcg of selenium each day.[xvi] A small handful of Brazil nuts (six to eight nuts) delivers a whopping 544 mcg, more than enough to take the edge off your mood.

All of these nuts provide essential amino acids and fatty acids that produce the mood-regulating hormones serotonin and dopamine, adding to their potential for helping to regulate mood and improve overall mental health.

3. Yogurt

Fermented foods like yogurt have long been acknowledged as beneficial for gut health due to the presence of friendly bacteria known as probiotics, which help protect the gastrointestinal (GI) tract against harmful pathogens and potentially dangerous microbes. As the understanding of the gut-brain connection develops, science is further acknowledging the benefits of fermented foods on brain health and even mood regulation.

A 2014 study on the effects of daily intake of yogurt enriched with probiotics by adults with high-trait anxiety disorder found that individuals who consumed enriched yogurt had healthier stress responses than those who consumed non-enriched yogurt, suggesting that eating probiotic-enriched yogurt aids in coping with chronic stress.

This beneficial activity may be due to probiotics’ neuroprotective effect on the brain. A study on healthy women with no gastrointestinal or psychiatric symptoms showed that ingesting a fermented milk product with probiotic for four weeks led to “robust alteration” within specific brain regions that control processing of emotion and sensation, leading researchers to assert that consuming such probiotic-rich foods may work to prevent anxious feelings from developing.

Other studies on animals and humans have shown that fermented food consumption is associated with fewer symptoms of social anxiety and lowered risk of depression.

It should be noted that there are plenty of alternatives to cow’s milk-based yogurt products today, such as coconut-, almond, and goat’s milk, all of which can help to prevent bovine casein-associated adverse health effects which we have documented in detail on our cow’s milk database here.

4. Green Tea for Theanine

Having a daily tea ritual is a great way to weave a moment of calm into your days. Besides the benefits of taking a break from daily concerns to boil water, select a cup and let it steep, drinking tea is a great way to boost your brain’s ability to ward off stress. There are more than 400 reasons to drink green tea, and for most adults today, feeling less stressed is at the top of the list.

A Singapore study on 60 healthy seniors showed that those with a regular tea habit had brain scans showing improved brain organization brought about by tea’s ability to prevent disruption of interregional connections. In other words, the different brain regions had more and healthier interconnections; they were more organized with better hemispheric symmetry.[xxiii]

Green tea’s magical properties are attributed primarily to L-theanine, an active polyphenol in green tea that may be at the heart of its ability to calm nerves and fortify the brain. An amino acid, theanine produces a soothing effect by stimulating production of GABA and dopamine, neurotransmitters known to play a role in anxiety[xxiv] and pleasurable sensations.

Green tea contains another potent phytochemical called EGCG, short for epigallocatechin-gallate, another polyphenol in green tea that has gained a lot of attention as a potential therapeutic agent for preventing neurodegenerative inflammatory diseases. And if you need any more reasons to start a green tea habit, regular tea drinking may bolster the immune system to prevent influenza infection.

If you’re wondering how much is too much, the answer is it’s very hard to overdo green tea consumption. A 2009 study conducted in Japan, one of the largest consumer countries of green tea, found that those who consumed more than 5 cups per day had significantly less stress than those who drank less than 1 cup per day.[xxvi] In other words, the more you drink, the better you feel. So, put on the kettle and start feeling better.

5. Dark Chocolate

While you engage in afternoon tea, why not break off a square (or two) of fine dark chocolate? Don’t worry about the jitters one might associate with chocolate; dark chocolate is clinically shown to improve anxiety and deliver a potent feel-good boost of serotonin.

Cocoa contains more active phenolic antioxidants than most foods, a factor that can benefit brain function. One could argue that dark chocolate tastes better than most foods too, a factor that has been clinically shown to impart a soothing effect to individuals who are prone to mood disorders.

Dark chocolate isn’t just about taste; it’s got minerals like magnesium that are important for brain health and mood. A large square of dark chocolate with 70% to 85% cacao provides around 36 milligrams (mg) of magnesium, nearly 10% of the U.S. RDA for adults.

Magnesium is considered an essential supplement for psychiatric patients due to the role it plays in calming the nervous system. A 2011 study of highly stressed individuals showed that eating 40 grams of dark chocolate every day for two weeks led to participants reporting significantly lower stress levels than participants eating milk or white chocolates.

Eating dark chocolate has been shown to boost the neurotransmitter serotonin, which can lead to fewer and milder feelings of anxiety due to an enhanced ability to manage stress. By adding a serving of dark chocolate to your day, you can impart a wide array of self-care benefits to both enhance your mood and increase your resilience to life’s daily stressors. There is no reason not to indulge.

Suicide and Death

Suicide and Death

By Sananda

Post on May 9, 2023

Free will?

JJK: “Everyone has free will – including taking their own life.” This statement, which I made at the 125th Light Reading , shook some readers. “Life is untouchable,” it is argued, and this is a license to commit suicide, especially if you don’t have to fear any negative consequences afterwards. There is talk of a “fog” in which a soul immerses itself after suicide – and of a lesson that must be caught up on. What is really the case? For me, a lot of religious images have a lasting effect on people.

For some people, it is unthinkable that “voluntary death” is subject to a person’s free will. So what is true?

SANANDA: You are embraced and embedded in my love, beloved person! Do not worry! Never worry! Especially not when people say goodbye to this world without having waited for GOD’S call.

If people choose the other life and have not lived this life to the full, then do not grieve but gain confidence, because everything is born of GOD’S love and everything is secure in GOD’S love.

Reasons

Every human being is free in his earthly decisions and actions. This describes free will. Otherwise, a person’s free will would not be worth mentioning.

But what happens when a human being, of their own free will, albeit often in desperation, decides to end life in the human body before the appointed time? It always depends on the individual! Generalizations mislead and confuse rather than provide guidance.

There are high, mature souls who choose before their time to return to the light. The reasons for this are different, but they are similar in one point:

Man no longer wants to live with certain circumstances and burdens! People who consciously prepare for their departure, who have been attached to their soul and to themselves all their lives, experience this transition just as consciously as they lived. Even though they may not have been able to fully complete certain aspects of their existence on earth:

Whoever dies consciously lives on consciously in the light. This even if certain orders remain uncompleted!

GOD does not judge! GOD receives every life in his grace. You may be aware of this and you should always be aware of it!

Even if no human being plans to end their life prematurely before descending to earth, this option is marked for many people in the alternative blueprints.

The fog”

JJK: Is there a “mist” that these souls then reside in or through which these souls have to go?

SANANDA: Very many souls are in a kind of “fog” after they have left their body. This is a stopover for the soul’s purification and clarification before its onward journey to its cosmic families.

People who were disoriented all their lives, who found no connection to themselves and who ignored the needs of the soul, lose themselves in different foggy worlds and are gradually reminded of the light that they are. This has nothing to do with the manner of death, but has to do with the manner of life a person has lived.

JJK: I think a lot of people die at 20 and are then buried at 80. Many people have no soul connection at all, they negate their divine self and deny their origin as spiritual beings. You can’t be dead! They may even have visible economic success, but their lives are flat and of no spiritual relevance.

“Suicide” in a new meaning

“Suicide” takes on a whole new meaning in this context. Namely, that you can kill yourself even though you’re still alive. On the other hand, one can voluntarily leave one’s body fully consciously and connected to oneself.

Most recently, I saw a video of Sabine Mehne , a woman who had been struggling with a serious illness for a long time and who, after years of suffering, finally made a conscious decision to give up the body. During these years she gained tremendous spiritual wisdom. The interview was so full of light and love that I could rarely perceive in a human being.

So when do you really kill yourself? Which is more harmful, giving up the body or separating oneself from the self for life? “Suicide” at 20, lugging around the body until 80 and waiting for the burial? What has what quality and what are the effects?

“Life is untouchable!”, people say! What kind of life are we talking about here?

SANANDA: Spiritual masters face their own death with excitement and joy. You know the place and the hour.

Will these masters be recalled by GOD or is it they themselves who make this choice? Here the will of GOD and the will of man go hand in hand.

Where the separation between GOD and man is abolished, there is no longer any separation in this question. When YOUR will and GOD’S will are one, everything takes its natural and divine course. However, this is the case for very few people. So how is it?

The potentials

Before a person incarnates, he plans his potentials, his learning experiences and the paths he wants to take to achieve them. A lot happens exactly on this blueprint designed in the afterlife, some things turn out differently. Because the earth is the planet of love and the star of free will. For most people, the premature end of a human life means that they want to embark on this learning experience again. There is a task to be mastered or karma to be balanced. This always happens in clarity, through the spiritual guidance of masters and in love.

The mist awaits only those people who show great defilements, since they have existed all their lives separated from their true nature, from spirit and soul. This disregard has unfavorable consequences and extensive purification work is required in the afterlife in order to free consciousness from earthly chains.

The real tragedy

The real tragedy of a person, however, is the “suicide” throughout life. Killing off the divine, denying one’s spirituality and discarding the spirit and soul. People who are often in the best of health and don’t give a damn about their spiritual well-being have a different course of the return journey than people who lived tied up.

JJK: What happens to these people?

SANANDA: They, too, are accompanied through the fog and brought to its light until they can remember again – or do you think GOD forgot one of HIS children?

JJK: Do these people come into this lonely foggy world that’s hard to get out of and some “seers” talked about?

SANANDA: These low vibrational etheric planes exist.

The intermediate world

This is where all souls gather who pass over disoriented because they have not paid attention to their soul care all their lives. This “mist” exists for every human being who has lived cut off from himself, who has allowed his self to die long before death because he has not been able to connect with himself.

This intermediate world is an intermediate stage and the soul stays there only as long as necessary. Life is untouchable – and remember: Everything is life, especially what is hidden from your eyes.

JJK: Many years ago, when I was in the middle of my life crisis for about 10 years, suicide was a big topic for me too. I really wanted to kill myself for the first time when I was 14 and until I was 25 it was an issue again and again. That was very concrete and much more than just a thought!

I know how much courage and strength this step requires and on the other hand how desperate a person must be to consider this or even to do it in the end.

So what to do when someone is carried by this intention. Should you help him with the implementation or bring him back to life?

SANANDA: Every soul comes to earth to create experiences and to succeed in the designed adventures! Projects have to be mastered, that is the meaning of human life. Plan A of the blueprint envisages that man will leave earthly existence when the hour that was measured before birth has come. This hour remains hidden from most people due to their own programming.

There are hardly any people who want to know this hour in advance. However, those who set out to fathom this secret will fathom it.

However, every person creates several scenarios before birth. That is why there is always a plan B, plan C or plan D. This must be respected. Therefore, different death scenarios are possible and also probable.

Even if a human life is subject to GOD’S will, there are always corrections and changes in the predetermined course due to the human being’s free will.

Life is Plan A

JJK: So you should help people so that they can find their way back to human life?

SANANDA: What kept you on Earth?

JJK: I had an inner drive, a will, and I really wanted to know the meaning of my life. Before that I just didn’t want to give up? Then I also had people who gave me hope, courage and support.

SANANDA: So it happens that each person finds what he needs in order to correspond to one of his plans in the end. Do not worry: the plane of the mist does not enter those who fully consciously go from here into the light, but affects those who unconsciously lead a shallow life of self-alienation.

True suicide is denying your divine nature, not giving up your physical body.

This is a partial aspect in a segment of time, a vehicle for experiences that are unique in being in this way.

No one is born to return early to the light, but everyone is welcomed like a king if their soul has remained pure through all the pain.

You are loved and honored, because because you are ready for the answers, your questions lead you to knowledge.

With infinite love
SANANDA
